[Yarn] The Socks Return

Oooh, I missed sock knitting.

It may be remembered that I had a bit of trouble with knitting the Fancy Silk Sock from Knitting Vintage Socks. I started the bloody things three times and decided I should Take A Break from sock knitting for a while. I think this was a good idea.

The pattern that I had so much trouble with before I breezed through easily in four days (including an all-night stint with Season 4 of Babylon 5 and an Old Man sleeping on my butt). We'll not discuss the fact that I missed the 'k1 yo k2tog' consistently on Row Nine throughout both socks, but that's just a 'design feature', not a gross mis-reading of the pattern. I happen to like how it looks.

I used some of my limited edition Tofutsies for this ... I just can't quite get into the Winterberry socks, as pretty as they are. Purple being my favorite color in the entire world, I really, really like how these look.

(Technical yarn babble here.) If I made these again, I would definitely cast on with larger needles -- like #5, instead of the #2.5s that I used. The cuff would probably be on #3 needles, and the rest of the sock on #2s. They fit quite well, and I stuck pretty true to the pattern. I happen to think sl1-k-psso is silly, so I did a much less involved SSK where required. I think it looks just fine. The cuff has eight repetitions instead of seven, and the toe has decreases every other row until six stitches remained on each needle, at which point I Kitchenered the thing together. Boy am I glad I learned how to do that. (Technical babble over, for the moment.)

These should be pretty good for summer. Tofutsies is a pretty lightweight sock, and the mini photoshoot I did outside proved the lace will help keep my feet cool.

Yeah, I think I'm back on my game. I even signed up for Sock Wars III, and I have every intention of going about it with brutal efficiency. I already have the yarn picked out -- how convenient that I had a couple balls of Tofutsies that I wasn't sure what to do with.
