Oh god. I don't know if I can properly describe just how incredibly awesome these socks are. They very well may be my favorite socks I've made ever.
I got the yarn from SWTC in exchange for knitting a sock for them. Yeah, twist my arm a little more to get me to knit a sock. How rough for me, right? I decided I wanted a spring-like look for this yarn, and I whipped out the Embossed Leaves pattern. I utterly fell in love with them when I only had about one repeat done. They still look kinda neat even when I'm not wearing them; the leaves get this three-dimensional look to them that's really pretty. Did I mention I love these socks?
Tofutsies has inadvertently become my favorite sock yarn. I have a ton of it in my sockstash (remember, kids, sock yarn doesn't count for your regular stash) -- six balls to be precise, before starting these, and another eight leftover balls. I think that's more than I have of Wildfoote at this point!
The variegations in the colors aren't too strong to drown a pattern like this, and it ended up looking just perfect. Did I mention they're perfect? Because they are.
I went with a twisted rib, because I think that looks gorgeous. I followed the recommended pattern length, and they're just about dead on the right height. For the heel, I slipped the first stitch of each row to make picking up the gusset stitches easier, and when I finished the heel turn I just knitted across instead of breaking the yarn and reattaching it on the other side. I only picked up 14 instead of 15 stitches, and did the decrease on the second and second-to-last stitch because I'm used to that. I also forgot to add a purl stitch at the end of the top of the foot, but I didn't really care so I left it that way. I therefore skipped the plain row with one decrease and did the star toe -- very different than what I'm used to, and quite nice. The directions got a little on the confusing side for that, but I got the gist of what they wanted.
It's amazing what you can make with a single piece of colored string.
if I forgot to mention it, I love these socks.
