[Cats] Nicodemus, Part 3

nyterose called the vet on his way back home from work, and got an update on Nicodemus. They got the catheter in, and he was awake, and we could go see him if we wanted. We took a little trip back out there to see him, and I grabbed the camera on the way out so everyone could see him. As you can see in the picture, he's definitely alive, if a little put out.

The procedure went very well, and they've managed to drain out his bladder. He did indeed have crystals in his urine, but that's about ALL he had. It doesn't look like he had any other problems or anything, so that's a positive thing. They're going to keep him for a couple days, make sure he's all right and no complications arise, and then hopefully we can take him home.

It's probably going to take a couple few days for the money my parents are giving me for this to actually get to me, so I suppose in some twisted way it's good that they have to keep him at the hospital. It gives me time to get the money from my parents, plus a little fundraising of my own.

I've had a couple friends already contact me off of LJ offering to help me out. I won't take charity. I have enough trouble asking my parents for money, I'm sure as hell not going to ask for it (or accept it at all) from my friends without giving something in return. I'm going to sell the bracelets I've been making as well as simple knitted objects (bags, hats, scarves, felted bowls/vases, etc) to help pay for Nicodemus' medical bills.

All told, this was about the most ideal result of the situation. He wasn't eating when we came in, and he didn't really show much interest in his food. We talked with the vet about it, and we both agreed he's probably just being stubborn. We sent him to a strange place with strange people and he has a tube up his butt and a cone on his head and he's not very happy. We figure by tomorrow, he'll be too hungry to care and he'll start eating a little bit. He's got some wet food that has medication in it for him, and plenty of water. We even brought in one of nyterose's work shirts, since Mr Tubby is always cuddling with him and it smells like him. They didn't have a problem with us bringing it in, but they warned us that it -would- get peed on. We both said we didn't care -- if it made him feel just a little bit better, that's good enough for us.

The trip home was a little quiet, and we had an aborted start as we both got a little emotional, but we're by and large okay now. Nick's in the safest place in the world for him now, and the best thing we can do for him at the moment is let him get better. I'm not really looking forward to what changes we'll have to do for him to stay comfortable, but we'll do it. If that's what it takes so I don't lose my baby boy, I don't care.

Oh, and I'm skipping work today. I decided it would just be way too stressful to go in while I was too busy worrying about him, and it's really hard to get excited and motivated about video games when one of your babies is at the hospital.
