Notes on episode 23.

The thing that confused me about this episode while watching it was the lack of Hallelujah. Not the lack of Hallelujah, per se, but Hallelujah not manifesting when Soma showed up, because he’s pushed Alle aside and swapped out in their previous three encounters. Instead, he tells Allelujah “I blocked your brain waves for you. Kill them all, Allelujah!”

I can only think of two reasons that make this situation different than the others, and both of them revolve around my general understanding that Hallelujah is Allelujah’s self-preservation instinct. One is the presence of the Trans-Am system, providing a limited time of absolute h@x for Kyrios. Once Trans-Am was initiated, there was no reason for Hallelujah to come out - the two of them weren’t in any danger while Kyrios was running in super-mode. The other is Allelujah’s relative aggressiveness in this battle - he enters combat with “I’ll strike first!” which is… not something he’s gone for before, then proceeds to fight with just about everything at his disposal, including some new hax booster equipment. Though he still hasn’t used the shield claw. Because Allelujah, well, actually did have the capacity and mindset to kill off the GN-X squads, there was no reason for Hallelujah to step in to provide those things.

How this will tie into things down the line… we’ll see. At this point, my projected ending for the series still involves a personality clash, a personality integration, and possibly a coma as Allelujah rips off Tahiri/Riina.

canon touched me funny
