Title: when doves cry
Fandom: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Characters: Josuke Higashikata
Rating: SAFE
Wordcount: 728
Warnings: angst
Notes:
1. yeah, someone wondered how would Josuke feel after hearing of Prince's sudden death, since he's his favourite singer, and I wrote this
2. I'm not personally invested about the loss, but in the end I guess it's still a bit personal?
3. scusami Liz ma il titolo l'ho un po' fregato dai tuoi tweet

Somewhere in his room, maybe buried in one of the drawers. Josuke has been looking for it for the last half an hour, he's sure he still has it, he could have never thrown it away.
His face is a mess, he knows it. His cheeks are just drying from all the tears that he has shed without control, his nose hurts from all the times he has wiped it with the back of his hand, and his throat can barely sob at this point.
And then it finds it. It's a bit ruined, it has been more than ten years after all, and the colours are a bit off, but it's still so clearly that piece of paper that holds so many memories from when he had moved to the US. Somehow, that piece of paper makes him remember the first time he got his ass drunk off too much beer and jungle juice, vomiting his soul out the morning after and barely recalling he had made out with a girl he didn't even know, but it's something he doesn't really regret. Or the time in the club when he first got laid, now that's something he regrets, the circumstances were absolutely crazy, even for him. Or when Okuyasu decided it was a good idea to move in with him and live together, "like bros would do" (the whole thing had quickly turned in something not-so-like-bros, but they're both glad it had ended up like that, even though they had both pursued other relationships not that much time later and they had gotten back to be just best friends, each in his house).
«How can you have never heard of him?».
«Dude, I'm not that big on music!».
«But - it's Prince! Even the rocks knows him!».
«Yeah, but it's not like I listen to the radio that much...».
He has kind of forced Okuyasu to listen to music, he realises. Josuke can easily say music runs in his veins, to the point more than one person has called him "Disco Boy", which isn't that far from the truth, and he has led Okuyasu so astray with his habit of having the stereo constantly on, he has caught him once or twice humming whatever hit was big right then.
He stares at the ticket in his hand. He still rememberes everything like he has just exited the place and was still full of euphoria. He had the chance, he had to tighten the belt for a while just to get the money, but it was all worth it. It had been the most wonderful day of his life (well, up until the other most wonderful day of his life, but that's not the point right now), seeing his most beloved artist on stage, to the point Josuke had cried out of joy and sang by heart all of his songs. He had even met the one he had thought was going to be the love of his life, and he couldn't have been happier to be alive.
And now, he's crying full of sadness, a 32 years old recently unemployed and single man still in his underwear and the t-shirt he wears as pyjamas, holding the ticket for his concert, ten years ago.
He reaches for the telephone and with his eyes becoming blurry again, swipes through all the messages of either his friends discussing about the big news and hammering down the concept that he's gone, or directly telling him how much they know he's a fan and they're sorry for him, until he reaches the number of his mother's phone. He's got not the guts to call her, but he needs to contact her somehow.
- Sorry I haven't called in a while, it's been the worst time here. Can I come over asap?
It's 3 in the morning in Japan, he knows it, she's going to be so pissed even if he's a grown man. He could have sent her countless messages, called her over Skype, and he has always taked for granted the fact that she is always going to be there...
- Sure thing, sweetheart, don't be sorry, when are you coming?
He has already wasted all of his tears, but somehow he has some more to shed, facing a fear he has ignored for a long time.
- I hope very soon, miss you mom
- I miss you too, Josuke
