The My LJ section has this "helpful" little bubble with ideas to overcome my apparent writer's block because I haved posted in 6 weeks. No, thank you, no block here. In fact, I have a ton of events to write about....
But they involve pictures, and you all know how I love my picture linkage posts. However, the time it would take to resize, upload, and caption all the pictures I have to share is something close to "all freaking day". I have photos from Atlanta/APhA, Lafayette/Province V, Minneapolis/Province VIII, Niagara Falls/Gamma Iota Banquet, Lancaster/Celtic Fling, plus assorted holiday and generally just cute pictures like Radar and I in Marietta or the bunny on my parents' porch at Easter. So I had been putting off posting until the galleries are done, but I don't know when that might be. Hence, a non-picture post.
APhA
I went down to Atlanta for the American Pharmacists Association annual meeting for fun and CE with my ladies. We had a great time despite hotel asshattery (Hiltons=totally overrated) including St. Patty's Day at a local Irish pub that was playing old 80s music. One of the convention's events was munchies at the Georgia Aquarium. It was a lot of fun since the pharmacists were the only folks there. We played with fishies! A group of us found this awesome little Southern cookin' restaurant called Mary Mac's. It was delicious. Mmmmmm, pecan pie....
Uhh, there's probably more. I've probably forgotten. Hopefully I'll remember when I go through the pictures again.
Province V
Province V was a good time. It was weird with out Dave or Steph or Angela V, but still a good time. I don't recall anything particularly exciting. The Saturday night activity, though, was bowling which was tons of fun. I love bowling, and it was a really good time goofing off while throwing heavy objects. Yeah. Oh! There was the incident at dinner where Jim (the former Dude in Charge) mentioned about salad not being real food. I piped in with an indignant "Hey!" cause I like salad so Jim proceeded to announced to the group that anyone who didn't want their salad could give it to me....and I ended up with five salad plates. Radar took a picture (after dropping off his salad). Har har.
Wow, these summaries are kind of crap.
Province VIII
Again, a really Kappa Psi time. The two themes for the weekend were Fiesta (Friday) and 70s era (Saturday). I was a senorita and a flower child, repectively. I ended up in a king bed with Miller and Rich because Miller didn't check the defaults when he booked the room. Not fun. Not fun indeed. Two folks from Wisconsin (Beta Psi and Wisconsin Grad) came over for the weekend which made me happy. The chapter at SDSU, Gamma Kappa, put on an amazing chapter report which I posted
here earlier. Lot of fun costumes which meant lots of pictures because I love costumes. I didn't make it to Mall of America. I think that's about it....
Easter
I went home for Easter and dyed eggs with my mom. Arranged them according to the color wheel because I am weird. The dye kit had a pink tablet, but the egg we chose for that cup wasn't taking the color evenly. It came out all speckled. So then we threw it into the red and nothing. Then the blue which turned the red/pink areas a really odd shade of purple and the white areas light blue. Then I think we threw it into the purple which only deepened the existing purple shade to near black while the speckles stayed light blue. It was bizarre, and kind of ugly at first, but in the end it became my favorite egg. It snowed. Didn't snow on Christmas, but it snowed on Easter. Fabulous. We were visited by a big fat bunny that chilled (literally) on the porch for a while before hopping to a warmer place. My dad made garlic shrimp instead of traditional ham since I don't eat ham. It was very nice. I appreciated it. All in all a nice restful weekend.
Niagara Falls
Radar picked me up Friday morning, and we drove up to the Falls to the crack den where Dave had booked our rooms. Seriously, worst hotel ever. But, we had a nice drive just the two of us. Friday was the banquet at Top of the Falls. It was fun. The view was gorgeous, but COLD. The water just sucks all the warmth out of the air. Gamma Iota gave out their awards both serious and funny. Afterwards, I went to bed while the guys walked over to Canada. Saturday we had lunch at Planet Hollywood before Dave, Burkin, Miller, and Rich went looking for Inferno. Radar and I stayed behind and had a lovely time walking along the falls. I took a bunch of pictures because I have a special setting on my camera for water scenes, and I wanted to see if there was actually a difference. Saturday night, Pete and Erin had us over to their beautiful home for a cook-out and chilling (again, literally) by their lake. Lucky gits! It was a very nice evening with friends. Sunday we got some breakfast and headed back to our respective homes.
The Boyfriend
Ummm, since Niagara time has been split between me travelling down to Marietta, and Radar travelling here to Pittsburgh on the weekends he doesn't work. If you haven't heard the news, Radar and I are dating. And if I didn't mention, my boyfriend's name is Radar (Kappa Psi nickname, his given name is Cameron). It's been about three months officially. I'm really happy and...yeah :o) He makes me smile in giddy sort of way.
OK, then! Marietta's a cute little city on the Ohio River. He drove me around the areas where he'd grown up and some of his favorite places. The one weekend there were two large steamboats docked at the same time. One was for a river cruise and the other was a floating hotel. It's a nice area. I like it. When Radar was here, we went to a Pirates game and the Waterfront. Last weekend we went into Ligonier where he met my parents, and I got to show him around the town where I grew up and my favorite places, like Linn Runn State Park and The Bog.
So every other weekend, I'm either out of town or have company.
Celtic Fling
Two weekends ago, Jackie L and myself drove out to Philly to meet up with Angela V and friends for a weekend of Celtic fun at the PA Ren Faire grounds. It was fabulous. It was so much fun. We spent Friday night at Angela's then drove into the Lancaster area. We stayed at the most adorable little B&B called Mt. Gretna Inn. I'm totally going back at the end of August. After dropping our stuff off, we headed over to the Fling which was packed. One of my favorites,
Ceann, was performing, as were the
Tartan Terrors. New favorites gained this weekend were
Scythian and
Icewagon FLU. Individually, they're hilariously funny bands with engaging stage presence and talent. Together....they're try to stay on your bench and not pass out from laughter. I bought more than I should have because I can't resist knotwork jewelry and pottery. I now have eight handless teacups with the Celtic pagan holidays. Woo. I have so many pics of the Fling because I was trying for stage/performance shots of bands that were dancing and jumping around.
Speaking of dancing and jumping around...check out
Celtic Spring. Search them on YouTube or something cause holy hell they were amazing. We saw them the first time at the Saturday Céilidh and our jaws dropped. The Céilidh ended each night. All the bands/performers came on the main stage for one number then they all got on a performed together. Fantastic. In fact, just search "Celtic Fling 2007" on YouTube and enjoy. Scythian IcewagonFLU has some videos on their MySpace too.
So we spent all day Saturday and Sunday watching Irish step-dance demonstrations and Scottish athletic competitions amongst great bands and good beer and lovely crafts. Jackie and I ended up splitting the drive home, though she did most of it...bless her heart. "I'm not tired. I can keep driving!" "OK *zzzz*"
So much fun
And I think that pretty much wraps this entry up. I saw Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End with my mother. Enjoyed both of those. I saw 300 and Fracture with Adam and also enjoyed those. 300 was great, and the
Movie in Fifteen Minutes Parody by the always brilliant
cleolinda rocked my world.
This past weekend I saw Transformers and became a drooling, grinning mess of nostalgic love and Paris, Je t'aime that was interesting and independent.
Last night I went to The Melting Pot with Adam and Jyl which was delicious and ran into Jackie L in the ladies room. Her and her hubby were out for her birthday. Happy Birthday Jackie!
This weekend I'm heading down to Marietta to spend it with Radar. We're going to see Harry Potter Friday night (*squeeeeeee*) and Saturday I get to meet his family. We planning on going to the PA Ren Faire the weekend of August 24/25th and staying at Mt. Gretna Inn again.
I think that's all I have.
Pictures soon...ish.
I'll leave you with two: one of Radar and I at the Falls before the banquet, and one of me in a corset from the Fling.
