Notes: So,
darthbatgirl put out this plotbunny on Tumblr, about Tim in Young Justice, and it followed me home and gnawed on my ankle at dinner. 800~ words later....
He'd had to plan for months, but it had all worked out, and now Tim was outside the Hall of Justice in Washington, D.C., getting ready to take one of the public tours. His 'chaperone' for the trip was a college freshman who thought he had been hired by Tim's parents to take their son on an educational trip to the nation's capital and deliver him safely back to Gotham. The young man had a girlfriend in the city, though, which was why Tim had picked him. The two of them were somewhere else on the Mall, having been convinced by Tim that he was old enough to visit the Hall of Justice on his own. Tim could see that they liked the idea of not having a kid tagging along for a few hours.
"Look! It's the League!"
"Hey, is that Aqualad?"
"I think that's Robin!"
Tim's head snapped around. Over by the roped off areas, people were gathering. He wormed his way over there, tucking his tour ticket into the hidden belt pouch under his Gotham Knights T-shirt.
Getting to the edge of the ropes, Tim stopped and stared. There, standing around casually, were Robin, Aqualad, and Speedy. Their mentors, Batman, Aquaman, and Green Arrow, were also there, but Tim only had eyes for Robin. Dick Grayson, though Tim would take that secret to his grave, rather than endanger Dick. He raised his camera and started taking pictures, focusing on Dick.
The woman next to him waved a hand out. "Robin, look this way so this kid can get your picture!"
Tim blushed behind the camera, but smiled when Dick turned his way, smiling and posing. He reached out and grabbed his two fellow teen heroes and pulled them in for a picture for Tim. These were going to be great shots.
Then Dick said something to his friends and came over. "Gotham Knights fan? You from Gotham?" he asked Tim.
Tim blushed terribly, fiddling with his camera. "Y-yes," he said softly, blushing for the stutter.
Dick reached out and ruffled Tim's hair. "What's your name, kiddo?"
"T-Tim."
"Hey Speedy, come over here and take a picture of me and Timmy!" Dick said, waving over the redheaded archer.
"Do we have time for this?" the older teen asked, even as he came over, hand out for Tim's camera.
"Kid Flash is always the last to arrive," Robin said. "Besides, Tim's from Gotham, can't disappoint a hometown kid. Here," he took Tim's camera and handed it to Speedy before pulling Tim from under the rope and picking him up, settling Tim on his hip.
"Say Batman!" Robin said with a grin as Speedy aimed the camera.
"Batman!" Tim said, unable to help the smile on his face. The camera clicked and Speedy checked the digital display, then turned it toward Tim and Robin. "Look good?"
Tim nodded. "Thank you, Mister Speedy."
The archer smiled. "You're welcome, Tim." He handed over the camera once Robin had set Tim down.
Robin ruffled Tim's hair once again. "Enjoy your trip to the Hall of Justice, Tim!"
"You too, Mr. Robin!" Tim said, ducking back behind the rope.
"Robin." Batman's voice cut into whatever Robin was going to say in reply. Robin waved before trotting off to his mentor. Tim hugged his camera to him, and the woman next to him chuckled.
"Quite an honor," she said. Tim looked up at her, taking in her dark hair, and the notepad in her hand. His mind made the connection quickly to the small photograph that had run beside several articles on Superman in the 'Daily Planet'.
"Lois Lane!"
The reporter chuckled. "I am. You're a smart kid. So, can I get a quote on how it felt to get your picture taken with Robin? I promise not to use your name, if you think your parents will disapprove." She glanced around for them.
"My father's back there," Tim said, pointing vaguely toward the back of the crowd. He couldn't exactly say they were in Argentina. "And it was awesome!" he added. Better than the night he'd first met Dick Grayson, though he still cherished that memory, if only because Dick, not Robin, had hugged him that night.
"A local Gotham boy in attendance said getting his picture taken with Robin was 'awesome'," Ms. Lane said as she wrote in her notepad. "Thank you."
"You're welcome, Ms. Lane."
Beyond them, The Flash and Kid Flash had arrived, so Tim cocked his head. "My dad's calling me. I need to go. It was nice to meet you, Ms. Lane."
She was focused on the group of heroes, but glanced down at Tim. "Nice to meet you too."
Tim slipped away from the crowd and checked the camera picture again, smiling. He hugged his camera to him before joining the line for his tour group. This was the best birthday ever.
