Spencer flashed his FBI credentials at the Metro officer outside of the building and took the stairs to the second floor two at a time. He flashed them again at the officer guarding the door and entered the apartment. "Don," he called out to the Metro detective who stood inside the living room, talking to another officer.

Detective Don Riley turned around. "Spencer," he said, reaching out to shake Spencer's hand. "I'm sorry to disturb you at this time of night, but I didn't know who else to call at the FBI. She didn't want us to call her boss, wouldn't tell us the name, but I figured someone at the FBI needed to be called, and you could be discreet if necessary."

Spencer nodded. "She works with me, so it's a good thing you called. Where--"

"In the bedroom. And Spencer, we got the guy. Well, she got the guy. Wields a mean frying pan. He'll be feeling the effects for a few days, according to EMTs."

Despite the situation, Spencer smiled. "Good." He looked around. "How long are you going to hold the scene?"

"A few more hours. We're done talking to her for the moment, so if you want to take her somewhere, just let me know. She refused to go to the hospital, but she may not want to stay here tonight."

"Thanks, Don," Spencer said, shaking his hand again before heading to the bedroom. He pushed aside the beaded curtain and took in Penelope Garcia where she sat on her bed, clutching a pillow, rocking back and forth slightly. "Garcia," he said softly, approaching her.

Garcia's head snapped up, her eyes widening. "I asked them not to call the FBI!" she said.

Spencer sat down on the bed, unable to take his eyes from the large bruise on her cheek. He was glad they'd taken the perp away before he'd gotten there. He wanted to take another frying pan to him for daring to hurt Garcia. "Detective Riley didn’t call the FBI. The rest of the team doesn't know. He and I have worked together before," Spencer added, though talking after BCC meetings wasn't quite working together, "that's why he called me. He wanted to make sure you would have someone else around. Should I call Kevin? I know he's in Atlanta, but we can get him back here first thing in the morning."

Garcia swallowed, then leaned forward and wrapped her arms around Spencer, surprising him. "Thank you," she said into his shoulder.

Spencer blinked, but put an arm around her. "You're welcome," he said, not quite sure what was going on.

"You didn't assume it was Kevin," she said softly. "That means a lot. Someone else might have."

"Why would I assume it was Kevin?" Spencer asked, still confused. "Detective Riley told me it was a home invasion, not a domestic issue. Besides, Kevin's in Atlanta at the training seminar and he doesn't profile as an abuser."

Garcia pulled back. "You profiled Kevin?"

Spencer shrugged. "After what happened, I wanted to make sure he was good enough for you. Since I thought he was, I never said anything. To you or anyone else." He paused as Garcia hugged him again. "Um, if you don't want to stay here tonight, I've got a spare bed in my apartment. Or I can get you a hotel room."

Garcia pulled back and patted his cheek. "We need to find you someone," she said. "You're too special to be alone."

Spencer gave her a small smile. "I found someone special years ago," he said. "She just found herself a different geek that was right for her." When Garcia blinked at him, her jaw dropping as he realized what he had admitted, he stood and offered her his hand. "Shall we?" he asked.

Garcia took his hand and stood. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

Spencer shook his head. "Don't be." He squeezed her hand. "You deserve to be happy."

As she followed him out, he heard her whisper, "So do you, Reid."
