After
seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls with Matt, we grabbed some Roberto's (so tasty!). There were plans in the works to attend a party in Pacific Beach with some of Matt and Eric's co-workers. Eric came over along with some soon-to-be coworkers, Josh and Denise, who moved here about a week ago. (Denise is Jamaican--I love her accent!) We played a few hands of a drinking game with cards before the cab was here. The cab driver was hilarious! He was from Eastern Europe (specifically, Bulgaria), and he had the joviality thing down pat. He got on a hilarious rant about energy drinks...I wish I could have recorded it.
The party was actually a dress-up party, so we were supposed to dress up nice. I was kinda reluctant to go, because I had shorts on. (At least I had on a button-down shirt...) We got there, and people were dressed in suits and semi-formal gowns. I was way underdressed, obviously, but I didn't care that much. I found out that one of the girls went to undergrad at Duke, so we each exchanged the obligatory derogatory remarks about the other's school before reminiscing about North Carolina. (Though, how can one reminisce about Durham? Get serious... :-) )
The five of us (Matt, Eric, Josh, and Denise) stayed for quite a while, but eventually bounced to Garnet St., one block away. It was a pretty happening street, with lots of bars and people. We barely got in to one bar before closing time, but soon left. We stopped at McDonald's, then caught a cab. I had forgotten what it was like to hang out with drunk people. They keep repeating themselves! It eventually got old as I eventually got tired, but I did a good job of tolerating their exuberant, sloppy rants. :-)
I crashed on Matt's couch. I had planned to catch the last northbound bus at 12:30am last night so that I could get a ride to church this morning, but Eric and Denise promised that they would take me home in the morning. I was impressed: they stuck to their promise, even after such a late night.
