Parties

Last Friday, Matt (a friend from college) and I had the 2nd weekend of "40's after 5", a little tradition one of our friends started. He has an old Nintendo--like, the original NES--and many games. I had a great time remembering Double Dragon 2 and Super Mario Brothers 3. Eric joined us, and later we went to a party that their friend Priya was hosting. It was a good group of people, none of whom I'd met before. Most of them work at the same place as Matt and Eric, and are geeks, but that cool kind of non-nerdy geek, ya know? We talked about music, sports, and lots of other things. We played Guillotine and Catchphrase. It was a really fun time, though I was really sleepy by the time I got home.

Then, the next night, I joined my flatmates at a birthday party they were throwing at a friend's house. That was a proper house party, with lots of liquor and beer, beer pong, and even a dance floor with some thumpy bass. I met many interesting people that night, too. There was a pullup bar in the kitchen. I did 10--almost 11. I forgot how hard pullups are! Whew! My arms were all floppy afterwards. Later (much later), it was time to go, but people were hungry, so we went to Denny's. I drove David's SUV, since I was sober. My first SoCal driving experience. :-) I finally got to bed at like 4:30...

...and woke up at 8ish to get a call from Keith asking if I wanted a ride to church. He had called Saturday saying Kristin was feeling under the weather, and that he wasn't sure if they would make it, but she felt good enough after all, so I hopped in the shower and went. After I got home, I took a 4 hour nap, despite the best of intentions. I set my phone to wake me at 4pm so that I could go to the Rock church with the roommates, but the darn thing never went off, and I slept 'til like 7pm instead. Stupid technology! :-p

This week, I'm working 10 hour days Monday through Thursday so that I can fly on Friday to Arkansas for a wedding. I'm really looking forward to seeing J-Bost, my old buddy from college, get married to his college sweetheart. And of course I get to see my family and some old friends. It's going to be great.
