Last Friday was the date of the big Irish Car Bomb party. Except for last fall, I've thrown one of these each semester. It satisfies my need to throw a party every once in a while...and it also gives me a reason to thoroughly clean the apartment.
(By the way, for those of you who don't know what an Irish Car Bomb is, let me explain. You take a shot glass, fill it half-full with Jameson Irish Whiskey and top it off with Bailey's Irish Cream. Then, pour half a pint of Guinness into a pint glass. After gathering your friends, you count down, drop the shot glass into the Guinness, and chug. And you have to chug the whole thing immediately or not at all, because Bailey's plus Guiness rapidly thickens into sludge and then curdles. Despite how horrible that sounds, it's actually quite tasty, a bit similar to melted ice cream.)
The party was a smashing success. I didn't think to count, but I think there must have been upwards of 30 separate partygoers, with at least 20 in my apartment at once. It was pretty crowded, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Stephen was kind enough to open up his apartment (not to mention bring up a ton of liquor from his place), but as it turned out, we didn't quite need the extra space. I heard afterwards that a few people got sick, but they were quite discreet, and nobody monopolized the toilet (unlike all 3 previous parties!), so I consider that a success.
Around noon the next day, Jason called to invite me out to Elmo's Diner (one of my favorite places). I said that sounded fun, so they came to pick me up (and to drop Claire off at her car, which was at my place), and in the process all 3 of them came in and helped clean up some. Very nice of them! (There was also a mystery person who took a whole trashbag full of Guinness cans and bottles down to the recycling area.) We ate at Elmo's, then Sarah, Jason, and I played some disc golf.
I came back and got cleaned up a bit, then went to P.F. Chang's with a bunch of people to celebrate Kirsten's birthday. That place is tasty! (Note to self: get an Asian Pear Mojito next time!) Later, we headed for Bub's to continue the celebration, and we all ended up at Lucy's. Good times!
