5 first years and I went over to Red Hat's headquarters in Raleigh for an "internship fair" this afternoon. IBM, Cisco, and SAS were also there. It was very crowded, and although 1-on-1 time with a recruiter was useful, it often took a half hour or more to get to that point. I was dressed up in a full-blown suit, leather binder-thingie and fancy UNC pen accompanying me.
I thought it was interesting that I felt completely calm the entire time. I guess I feel pretty secure in my credentials or whatever that I really don't sweat my chances too much. This is probably an unhealthy attitude, because it certainly doesn't make me want to hurry online to submit my resume to each of 20 companies' separate online job application systems. I'm sure this won't be the case after I graduate and start looking for a fancy Ph.D. job, but for now, I guess I feel pretty confident...
And besides, at this point I'm way more anxious about the fellowship. Summer employment is like 3 months, maybe 12k if I do really well, but the fellowship is big bucks for 3 years, so go figure...
