I'm having a birthday picnic with my friend Richard. In my infinite wisdom, I've decided that I want it to be Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy themed as it's his favourite book(s). So, we're having the picnic at the end of the universe and using towels as picnic blankets. However, I'm struggling for food.
So far, we'll be drinking pan-galactic gargle blasters (chilled with ice from the fjords) (incidentally, what do these actually look like? In my head they're green with a slice of lemon...) and eating perfectly normal beast sandwiches. I was also thinking of mixing yellow food colouring with tuna and making babel fish sandwiches. I'll probably buy some white mice sweets too.
Do you guys have any more ideas for food? I was thinking about buying crisps and nibbles and labeling as the food from the floating party. If I wasn't making tuna sandwiches I'd make tuna pasta salad (whale) and decorate it with petunias, but it is an option if pushed. Could use salmon if pushed, but I can't stand salmon. Or 42 piece fruit salad?
The cake is also proving tricky. Initially, it was going to be the guide with Dont Panic on it. But party of me wants to make something awesome with all sorts of bits on it. But it's a two person picnic, and while I like cake, a massive themed one would go to waste.
Also, we're totally having vogon poetry afterwards.
