OK, so I haven't posted anything in a while... sorry about that. And ok, so my post now is a bloody rant... sorry about that too. You might get a worthwhile update out of me at some point in the next several months or so... now on with the rant...
So as you may have guessed, my computer crashed today. Spontaneous reboot is the term often used and is commonly a result of a power supply going bad, though in this case it could be problems with the motherboard or even the wiring in the house, it's hard to say since the post office beat my computer up so badly when I shipped it home from Hawaii last summer. Anyway, I'm fairly used to having computers crash on me, and I'm fairly used to it happening somewhat regularly, I've had a lot of old, beat up computers in my time, and known other people with them too, it's just the way it goes. What I'm not used to is having a crash convince a program (namely FireFox) that it needs to update itself when it really doesn't, and having that update process delete ALL of my bookmarks!
Firefox is supposed to keep regular backups of the bookmarks too, but those are also gone. So all I have for bookmarks is what I had manually backed up back in November, and I know for a fact that the bookmarks from November is only about one-half to two-thirds of the total bookmarks I had as of this morning before the crash, many of them bookmarks to obscure but highly useful websites that I may never find again! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
OK, done ranting, but here's a cautionary word for you all... if you have large numbers of bookmarks and you would like to keep them... back them up at least once per month!
That is all.
