Title: Broken Dreams
Author: kuromori
Pairing: Yuuram
Chapter: 3
Rating:PG-13 (a moment or two of strong language)
Summary: Poor Yuuri... even I feel sorry for him... And sorry for how long it took. I had a problem getting this one out for some reason

“Who am I?” Yuuri blinked, slowly unlinking his arms from around the thinner boy's waist. This had to be a joke, right? How could Wolfram not know who he was? The boy had been chasing him all over the globe for months, and suddenly he forgets!?

“Hieka... I tried to tell you.” Gunter came up beside the bed, his hand laying gently upon Yuuri's shoulder. “Wolfram doesn't remember you. He has amnesia. He doesn't remember us, he doesn't remember this castle, he doesn't know what year it is or even the day. He doesn't even know who he is.”

Yuuri bowed his head, his fist clenching. “How did this happen?”

“We're looking into that.” Gunter looked over at Wolfram as if he were unsure whether or not it was wise to continue.

“Go on.” Wolf leaned back against his headboard. This story wasn't anything new to him. He too had asked this very same question.

“It was leaked that the Maou's fiancé was aboard that ship and a band of rebels sought to use him for negotiations.”

“Rebels?” Yuuri blinked. Wouldn't rebels be people in his own country?

“Yes, they're a group that we've been having problems with for a while now. What we can gather from survivors is that they came on looking for the Maou's fiancé, not expecting what they got. They fought with Wolfram, injuring him and then lightning hit the mast, causing fires and chaos to break out, it was during this time that our young lord had fallen overboard.” Yuuri turned his head to look at Wolfram. He couldn't imagine what it had to be like for him. Was he scared? Did it hurt? What was going through his mind as the blade pierced him.

“Wolfram...” Yuuri's hand raised up and gently stroke over Wolf's cheek.

“Eh!?” The blond moved back, not sure what to make of this touch.

“Wolfram, it's okay... this is the one your mother told you about.” Gunter explained with a half hearted smile. “Yuuriheika is your fiancé. He is the one who saved your life. Oh! It was so miraculous! Never have I seen such love! Such devotion! Such absolute selflessness! It brought tears to my eyes!”

“Gunter... this really isn't the time for that.” Yuuri knew the man was only trying to lighten the mood, but with how Yuuri was feeling now, it really wasn't helping.

“You're the one who saved me?” Yuuri blinked and turned his head toward Wolf. The question somehow startled him.

“Yes. But I'm not the only one. Every one around you worked very hard to save your life. You gave us quite a scare.”

“And you're the Maou?” Why did these questions hurt so much?

“He's still a little wet behind the ears, but he's coming along famously! He's so generous, and kind! It makes my Mazoku heart soar!”

“Maa, maa... I could have never done it without you guys.” Yuuri smiled over at Wolfram. “I have so many stories I can tell you about your brothers and yourself. If you'd like? Though I'll probably come out sounding like an idiot when you hear them!” He forced out a laugh.

“That’s okay. You haven't sounded like an idiot so far.” The young prince met Yuuri's eyes, a smile on lips that could have melted the heart of the most cold blooded man only made Yuuri's heart sink. It wasn't a smile that Wolf normally just gave. It had a sickening sweetness to it. Wolf was a good person, and he had wonderful moments, but he was hot-tempered, rash, and could be rude at times. He was rarely sweet. The smile was the very opposite of the Wolfram he knew. “I'm sorry this must be such a hassle for you.”

“Ah! No! It's okay. Don't apologize! It's not your fault! We'll do our best to make sure you're comfortable and make things as easy as possible for you!” Yuuri's hands waved dismissively in the air, hiding any inner emotions. Wolf had just apologized... he never apologized... At least not that easily. The boy rarely felt sorry for anything he did, and he stood by all his choices unless fought down to agreement. Was this really his Wolfram?

“Arigatou, Heika.” ‘Would someone please stop twisting the fucking knife!!’ is what Yuuri wished he could say. Wolf had been the only one who would never call him that. Wolf never put Yuuri too far above himself. Yuuri had been thankful for that, cause at least around Wolfram he could feel like a normal boy.

“D..don't.” He couldn't take much more of this.

“Excuse me?” Oh crap... what did he do now...?

“Y.. you don't have to call me that. I.. I'm your fiancé. Yuuri is just fine.” That had to have been the first time he'd ever admitted that aloud.

“I'm going to leave you two alone for now.” Gunter gave Yuuri's shoulder a reassuring squeeze as he left. Part of Yuuri wanted to beg him to stay, another part wanted to leave with him while his chest tightened at the idea of leaving Wolfram alone again.

The room filled with an awkward silence as the two boys seemed to look at every thing but each other. The seconds passed slowly, and after what felt like an eternity, the blond demon finally spoke.

“You don't have to stay here if you don't want to.”

“Eh? No! I'm fine! Why would I leave!?” Was Yuuri that transparent? Yes he was uncomfortable, but he didn't exactly WANT to leave.

“You're fidgeting...” Those emerald eyes shifted down to Yuuri's fingers, which were firmly intertwined into the bed spread.

“Ah! Sorry.. I do that when I'm nervous.” He apologized as he dropped the blanket.

“It must be frustrating. Loving some one that doesn't even know you.” Instantly Yuuri's cheeks darkened.

“Love!?” His voice practically pitched as he repeated that word.

“We were to be wed, right? I'd assume there was love there, or was it an arranged thing?” Yuuri could only sit there and stare at the boy. He couldn't get the words to form. He couldn't tell this Wolfram that it was all an accident. Everything about there relationship was based off a mistaken slap across the cheek. He didn't have the heart to tell him that the only reason why they were engaged was because Wolfram had insulted his mother. But could he admit love? Just a day ago he was rejoicing that he had some peace and quiet... is that was lovers do? Well his parents did that, sometimes, but he didn't think they were like that when they were engaged... they probably couldn't get enough of each other.

“Well, umm.... we did a lot of things together.” He smiled softly. “We... we traveled to all sorts of different places, you were always there! There were sword fights, sharks, sand bears. All sorts of stories I can tell you!” He wanted to dodge the question. He couldn't answer something he didn't know, and he didn't want to hurt Wolfram.

“So, there wasn't love then?” Damn him... He was unusually sharp even like this.

“That is also along story. I like having you around Wolfram, and I will do everything in my power to help you. I swear it. I.. I couldn't imagine any of the things we'd been though, if you weren't there. Y.. you were part of what made this place home to me, and I don't want be without you... But... I... I don't know if love had anything to do with it.” Yuuri winced, that sounded a lot harsher then what he meant for it to be. “Where I come from... it's not considered normal for two guys to get married... in fact, it's against the law. So it's just taking me a bit of time to-” A hand came to his lips to silence him, and Yuuri felt oddly compelled to obey.

“It's alright Yuuri. This should make things easier for you.”

“Make what easier?”

“We don't have to get married if you don't want to.”

“Wolfram...”

To be continued
