More summary of 45 and screencaps behind the cut. LOTS OF SCREENCAPS AND SPOILERS. YOU ARE WARNED!
We open with Stoffel and Raven discussing an important meeting with His Majesty, in which they intend to introduce him to a certain 'princess'.
Yuuri learns he's having an 'o-miai' (a marriage contract discussion), but his advisors refuse to let him see what the girl looks like, instead running through a list of her merits.
Even Cheri gets in on the fun; "She's like my kouhai!" A kouhai is a junior to someone, usually one who looks up to you or strives to be like you (or at least that's how it is in this usage).
And of course, hearing this gets Yuuri even MORE excited.
"Well, heheh, I guess if Cheri-sama says so..." >D
During all this excitement, Wolfram's away with his men...which is probably a good thing. But he still gets this ominous feeling nonetheless, and a messenger arrives with news of the o-miai. Uh oh...
Greta is, of course, thrilled at the prospect of having a mother. "I'm so happy! I always wanted a mother! All I have right now is a daddy and a daddy!" I find it so cute that she refers to both Yuuri and Wolfram as her daddys ("Uchi ni wa Otousan to Otousan shika inai kara!") as opposed to her usually calling them by their names.
"Oh, but...I wonder what'll happen to Wolfram..."
Awkward dinner with Elizabeth.
And everything's going...all right...until the ominous sound of approaching hooves arises...
Typical reactions by all, as who should storm in, horse and all, but...
We are not happy; not happy at ALL.
And of course, the woman who dares to meet in secret to arrange a marriage with his fiance must die.
"...I'm what?"
"HIS FIANCEE?!"
Cheri confuses me sometimes...she's thrilled to see her son being fought over. MAKE UP YOUR MIND, WOMAN!
A flashback to the slap--so adorable.
Even more adorable is how "O SHI!" he looks.
And for once...Wolfram has nothing to say.
Elizabeth refuses to accept that Wolfram has forgotten their engagement, and in classic Shin Makoku style, challenges Yuuri to a duel by knocking all the dishes onto the floor. REALLY, Yuuri, didn't you learn anything back in episode 2? Oh wait...that's just a spork! Thank goodness! You don't accept a duel unless you pick up a KNIFE!
Yup, a knife--just like that one you're hold--oops...
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S ANOTHER CUSTOM IF YOU PICK UP BOTH!?
Gunter: "How can this be? To hold those two things against an opponent...is to make a declaration of your receiving a lover! And the opening of hostilities which is to be understood from this is for a love-triangle, with an implication of two members competing for the third!"
Yuuri: "N-NO ONE TOLD ME THAT!"
You can almost see the hearts floating around his head, "Yuuri...!"
The maids discuss the various possibilities, what might come about from one side winning or losing.
So the two fiances (for now) engage in a little pre-match midnight practice, during which Wolfram assures him he won't be getting any sleep tonight. (It's a lot more fun if you block out the clanging of swords and just listen to their dialogue *evil grin*)
"Why'd you slap her then?! Hehe...I'll bet you were in love with her!"
"I absolutely will not tolerate such jokes!"
And of course, Yuuri starts off getting his butt kicked. "Is THIS the level of power the Maou can muster?"
Aah, a wonderful cheering section.
Yuuri's convinced that Wolfram and Elizabeth are MUCH better suited than Wolf and himself, so he resolves to lose on purpose, but make it look accidental. Since the fight ground is lined off by a line, if he steps over, he loses, so he lets himself get pushed back until he's at the edge.
"Back, bitch." (Ok...so maybe that's not EXACTLY what he says >_>)
Seems Elizabeth thinks of Yuuri the same way as Wolfram, and it ticks him off just as bad here, "Don't call me a wimp!"
And just when all seems lost, Wolfram can't help but step in and save the day.
Elizabeth: "All you do is lie...you really saved His Majesty...because you love him, didn't you?"
Elizabeth: "If you won't be mine, then..."
Yuuri you love-sick idiot...
Enter the Maou, alerting all that "Love has called me forth!" X3
"Well, guess I lost! Please take good care of Wolfram, I leave him to you!"
Think again, lover boy!
Wolfram: "Even Elizabeth's accepted that I'm your fiance!"
<3333
It could have been a lot worse, I think, and despite my wanting much more Yuuram than I was given, I was pleased by a few points:
>>Greta thinking of both Yuuri and Wolfram as her fathers
>>After this line: "All you do is lie...you really saved His Majesty...because you love him, didn't you?" Wolfram is facing away from Yuuri, and all you see is Yuuri staring at him, saying, "Wolfram..." in a tone of realization (FINALLY), yet Wolfram neither denies nor affirms it. That pride of his!
>>There's no way I'm translating the Maou's speech, but by his saying "Love has called me forth" after Yuuri throws himself in front of the fire-lion to save Wolfram seems to be saying a lot to me...
Eeeee! I hope I haven't been too fangirl-y, but I truly hope the sub of this gets out soon! I'm certain there's all kinds of subtext I've missed or mistranslated!
