If there was one thing Yuuri knew, it was Christmas trees. His mother loved to decorate them and always bought one as soon as they showed up in the tree lots. When his brother and father managed to escape her, he ended up the one draped in tinsel and holding the boxes of ornaments.

Yes, it was safe to say that he knew Christmas trees, and he was the expert on them here. And he was sure that Christmas trees, no matter where you are, do not meow.

“How did she get up there?” Yuuri asked, craning his head back to see the full height of the huge tree in the main hall. As if answering him, another pathetic cry came from somewhere in the tree.

At his elbow, Gwendal wrung his hands helplessly as his eyes scanned the branches for his missing cat. Yuuri had never seen the man look so worried.

“She probably thought all the stuff on it was fun,” Wolfram reasoned from Yuuri’s other side. He pointed to several broken glass baubles on the floor near the tree and the uneven row of gold and silver beads. “And cats climb trees. Bringing this inside must have been wonderful for her.”

“That’s all very good,” Gwendal said tensely, a muscle twitching in his cheek. “But how do we get her down?”

Gunter patted Gwendal’s arm supportively. “Maybe she will find her way back down on her own,” he suggested hopefully. “She’s a smart girl.”

Wolfram shot him a disbelieving look and frowned. “She is a cat,” he reminded them, not bothering to hide the fact that he thought they were both crazy to be this worked up about a fur ball.

“Plus I think that if she could get down on her own, she would have by now,” Konrad said pleasantly. As if agreeing with him, the stranded cat cried louder and they could hear the shifting of the branches within the tree.

“So,” Yuuri said, turning to face them all. “How are we going to get her down?”

“Have no fear! I have just the thing to get your poor cat out of the tree, Gwendal.”

Every male face paled and they turned as one in horror.

“No, no, Annisina,” Yuuri insisted quickly. “I’m sure we can find a way. Can Yozak climb trees? Konrad, why don’t you go find him and ask?”

“Nonsense,” Annisina said as she pushed past the group huddled before the decorated tree. “Cat-Rescuing-Kun will have the poor dear out of the tree before Konrad could even locate Yozak.”

....

“Annisina! Watch out for that!”

“Be careful!”

“HEY! That’s an antique! Yuuri, I TOLD you not to put that in the tree!”

“Watch out! It’s falling!”

“Oh no!”

“Move, Yuuri!”

“My TREE!”

“MY CAT!

“MeerrrRAAWWWW!

....
....
....

“Nice catch, Gwendal.”

“I think he’s in shock.”
