What site can I buy the Japanese Comics?

May 04, 2011 20:36

Since Tokyopop has shut down its North American operations, I would like to buy the Japanese manga instead. But I can't seem to find it on my usual site, Yesasia.com. Does anyone know where I can buy the comics online? A trustworthy site perhaps? 0w0
Thank you very much!

amazon.jp but costs a FORTUNE for shipping.

kinokuniya if you happen to live near one... not sure if they ship online

also try akadot.com

if i think of any more importers, i'll let you know :)

they do.. their online ordering is really weird though
Go here
https://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/guest/cgi-bin/wshoscohb.cgi?AREA=02
type in the isbn for the book you want and it will search which stores have it and you put it in your cart and you can ask for home delivery.

Also, about Kinokuniya, tips for the OP: I rarely have an ISBN number and my keyboard can't make Japanese characters, so I usually copy-paste them from Baka-Updates Manga to search on Kinokuniya's site XP

You can also call a Kinokuniya store and order over the phone and they'll ship it to you. I don't know how far they're willing to ship though. Probably at least anywhere in the US?

Bk1 is pretty good but the site's in Japanese so you may need use babelfish to navigate.

Also they do a strange thing where they don't charge for an order until the beginning of the next month.

I wish Jpqueen was still around.

What's Bk1? I'm also looking for alternate sources for Japanese versions of the titles we're losing with TP going South. *grumble* Can't read 'em in the original language but hey....

Bk1 is an online, Japanese, bookstore. They carry manga as well as videos and many other types of books.

They have a large selection but like I said the sites in Japanese.

Here is a buying guide. Thought they've changed since it was written so I'm not sure if it still applies.

Sorry about the reposts.

CDJapan also stocks manga. Their shipping cost to the US isn't quite as expensive as Amazonjp's but it's still pricey. I just ordered 2 manga from CDJapan and the shipping was almost equal to the cost of the two books but it was for EMS which gets the package to my door in about 3 days.

There's always ebay but you might not be able to find what you're looking for when you want it. There are several or so sellers who offer the most recent releases of lots of titles. Shipping costs range from "free" to "you're kidding me, right?"

FYI, I've seen Japanese versions of manga on AmazonUS. They're coming from Amazon's Marketplace vendors but some of them are stateside so the shipping cost seems reasonable.

I wouldn't mind buying from CDJapan. Would you happen to have a link to the 8th volume of the manga? Or just the manga in general? 0w0
I can't seem to search it up for some reason.
Thanks so much for the response BTW!!

I actually find a lot of my Japanese manga from eBay, especially since Sasuga closed down. And have you tried https://www.asahiyausa.com? I've never bought from them, but I know they do manga. And I don't where you live, but I also bought a lot of stuff from Book Off in NYC and I know they have other locations around the US.

Thanks! I live in Canada :)
Sadly, less choices in my opinion. Maybe Ebay as a last resort. XD

I never stated the site did I? D: Major fail...

hmv.co.jp. They also have an English site, though you don't have to make a separate account for the two.

Thanks so much for the site!
Now I have a dilemma....I have two places with different benefits...
HMV has all the volumes, but to ship, it's about $20, and it's EMS....
And for the other site, it's free shipping so I save $20, but they don't have one of the volumes yet...so I'd have to wait for them to restock....
What should I do?? ;__ ;

Uhh, late reply is late. xD

I found this site while searching for a different novel series, but after looking up KKM I saw they have both the novels and manga. Though I think you only want the manga, right? xP

I ordered from there before, and they have speedy and fairly cheap shipping. Though it was only once. But it should be about the same.
