This goes out to those fans who ALSO watch the dub on their DVDs. I've been meaning to bring this up ever since I watched DVD #7...
( Cut for DVD spoilers )
at the time the English version was cast, S3 hadn't even started yet in Japan.
Not only that. If what I know of the dubbing industry is true (and it very well may not be, so take this with a grain of salt or whatnot), they had completed recording all 78 episodes before Geneon went under - at least six months before S3 aired.
Yeah, Funimation didn't have to do anything but distribute the DVD releases, I think. It looks like Geneon had already produced the discs and everything. It's kinda sad to think about them sitting all by themselves in some lonely warehouse in the middle of nowhere. TwT
However, if S2 sells well enough and Funimation picks up S3? They will have to produce the dub for that. And I do hope they keep the same cast...
It may end up another Saiyuki with a whole new cast. That would be a disaster. I'm so used to the current cast and don't want to invision the ADV regulars in the roles! >.
Nope, that's Tony. So you might want to amend your post a bit.
The part about Grant George still stands, of course.
Although, at the time the English version was cast, S3 hadn't even started yet in Japan. So you can hardly blame them for double-dipping. The bigger issue is the fact that Daikenja's voice sounds exactly like Murata's.
Like, not even slightly older or anything. But as to keeping the same voice actor, I kinda like what they were trying to do...

S'why it was so easy for Funimation to step in and release the rest of S2 on DVD - all the work had already been done for them!
