A pair of short fiction pieces

This is my first post here. Hello all! I'm
beatzz or Bea. =)
I just wanted to share these short pieces I wrote some time ago.

Title: Detention
Fandom: Kyou Kara Maou! (AU)
Word Count: 500
Warnings: A slightly warped alternate universe
Rating: G, I suppose
Summary: In another world, the tables are turned.

His green eyes seemed to probe the other boy’s very soul. They’d been standing there for hours, at opposite ends of the room. Always facing each other, their gazes unwavering, it wasn’t difficult to imagine there was a silent conversation between them.

Detention, of course, had been mandated for squabbles. The time spent together would supposedly help those involved in such scuffles to think about what they had done. It seemed there was little thinking being done in the room then. If you could tell that someone was just plain and simply feeling by looking at them, they would look like either or both of the boys.

They looked almost like the antithesis of one another at that moment, though.

The Japanese boy with dark hair and dark eyes was smiling resolutely at the other boy. His elation at being with the other young man was easily readable.

Meanwhile, the fair-haired and fair-skinned boy with emerald eyes was visibly upset. His anger had seemingly only multiplied while cooped up with the object of his affection.

Rumors had been going around in the faculty room as to the cause of the fight. It was a bit surprising really that it had happened in the first place. The German boy was an honor student and the Asian boy was active in community service. They were known as nice and as best friends. Apparently, the fuss started when the young catcher had cornered the other student and given him a kiss. It wasn’t even on the lips. Apparently, it was on the left cheek.

While I’ve personally never leaned that way myself, there were a number of openly gay students here and it didn’t disconcert me in the least. Some of my best students were homosexual. There was nothing wrong with them, was there?

I took a deep breath. It was time to stop observing the pair. Their time in lockdown was up. I was a bit concerned as to what would happen to the two after they left the room. After all, that nice baseball player kid had a terrible black eye. It was no secret either that the Mathlete pretty boy had quite a temper at times.

When I told them that they could go, I was surprised to find the blond boy waiting for his best friend to make the first move. I stepped out as I felt it was not my place to interfere.

I returned some of my notebooks to my desk and took my leave from my colleagues that were still in the faculty room. As I turned the corridor, I stepped back. They were face-to-face in the hallway, their foreheads almost touching. It was clear that this moment wasn’t mine to share but I became intrigued.

Those same green eyes still penetrated the other boy’s defenses, yet the look was softer. There was a different understanding there now. As they walked away, hand-in-hand, I couldn’t help but feel they were more than just best friends now.

Title: Independence
Fandom: Kyou Kara Maou!
Word Count: 100
Warnings: None, really
Rating: G again, I suppose
Summary: Wolfram thinks of shadows.

Shadows. They were his worst enemies, his best friends. All his life he had lived in shadows. His two elder brothers were famed for their skills and for their charm. All he was, he mused, was the companion of their shadows.

So everyday, from sunrise to sundown, he trained. He practiced hard. He studied carefully. He cultivated a cultured sense of humor, reading the books his brothers read. He tried everyday to break free from the shadows, to stand tall as they did.

He would one day cast his own proud shadow, he vowed. He would be free from theirs.
