there is something to be said about borders between people who are attracted to each other and how in guarding our borders we are in some ways more free than if we cross them especially when one of those involved is explicity forbidden to cross it because of a commitment to another. maintaining the border by never having "the talk" lets us get away with certain things that we never could otherwise.
we get to push borders when we have them. we get to send sentimental drunk texts at 4 in the morning. we get to share things that are intimate without feeling guarded. we get to see the best in each other because we will never have to deal with the worst.
i'm looking forward to valentine's day.
