Confessions of a sad whale...
Although I'm not too crazy about the majority of the new Pokemon, I'm excited for Black and White. There are a few Pokemon I genuinely like, and I adore most of the new trainers...
But the main reason I'm excited? I'm so sick of generation 4.
I've seen many people say that they're sad to leave generation 4 behind. I wish I could feel the same way. I have been utterly bored for the last three to four years. I was on the verge of quitting Pokemon entirely until pkmncollectors pulled me back into the hobby.
I hated so many things about gen 4:
-I didn't find the gym leaders/frontier brains particularly interesting, though I will admit I like Volkner and Roark's designs. Still, I will never understand why people fangirl so hard over them.
- Too many legendaries! I give up, I can't keep track of them all. Ruby/Sapphire was pushing it on the quantity of legendary Pokemon. DPP just went too far.
-The Pokemon. I dislike soooo many of the Pokemon. Here are the ones I actually like: Torterra, Luxray, Dialga, Palkia (kind of, I guess... inb4 space penis), Giratina (only leggy), and Arceus. And I'm getting to the point where I can tolerate Leafeon. Still, 6 out of 100 is not very good. :/
- The change to the battle system. Why you switch special and physical moves? Y u do dat?
- Team Galactic. I loved Team Rocket. Team Aqua/Magma were kind of dumb, but at least they were different. With Team Galactic, I feel like it's the same old stuff all over again. Just give me back the rockets...
- Contest changes. I actually liked the contests in Hoenn. With the new dress up component, I can't stand them.
- Dawn/Hikari. I quit watching the anime in the middle of RSE. I thought about picking it up again with DPP, but I watched a few episodes and couldn't stand her.
- Infernape. I'm sorry, but apes terrify me. Why did they have to make the starter an ape?
- The movies. Granted, I haven't seen the Arceus movie yet. But the others were severe disappointments.
- Aside from wifi components like the underground, I feel like the game didn't introduce anything new and exciting. With GSC we got roaming legendaries, held items, day/night changes, breeding, trainer rematches, shiny Pokemon, and access to multiple regions. With RSE we got a new bike gear (of course this deserves a mention!), new types of terrain and weather, contests, abilities, the battle frontier, and more water than you ever knew you wanted. With DPP we got... what? Wifi compatibility? The underground is cool and all. I like Wifi battles. But I think both of them could have been so much better. (Especially the global trade system. Don't get me started on that.)
In short: I am so bored and disappointed with DPP. Can't Black and White be released any faster?! As much as I hate on the new Pokemon, I like more than six of them: Zekrom, Reshiram, Chirami, Wargle, lightning zebra, mr. crocodile, and the Garchomp/Giratina lovechild. That's more than I can say for gen 4.
In case anyone is wondering, my favorite was gen 3 (Hoenn). It ties with gen 1 as the generation with the most awesome Pokemon! I could list my favorites, but I'm sure half of you would de-friend me on the spot if I put such a long list outside a cut.
So, f-list, I'm curious. What was your favorite Pokemon generation? What was your least favorite? And why?
