I HATE EVERYTHING!
I typically try to keep my negative opinions of new Pokemon to myself (or at least tone them down if I do post them), but I'm not going to bother this time because this week's new Pokemon reveal has made me legitimately angry.
For those who haven't seen it...
POKEMON DESIGNERS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
It supposedly has some connection to Mewtwo; most people are guessing it's an alternate Mewtwo form. When I first saw the preview images last week, I wasn't bothered because I assumed it was one of the dozen fake Pokemon that inevitably get passed around when new games are announced. But nope, apparently it's real.
That is the ugliest Pokemon I've seen in a long time. Things I hate about the design:
- the proportions in general. I really don't think the "big eyes, giant head, skinny body" thing works for Pokemon like Mewtwo who are supposed to be "cool". Leave it for the "cute" Pokemon, please.
- sausage toes and fingers... not that Mewtwo's toes are pretty, but at least they're somewhat proportional to his feet. How is this Pokemon supposed to stand up?
- IT HAS A TAIL GROWING OUT OF IT'S HEAD. WHY DOES IT HAVE A TAIL GROWING OUT OF ITS HEAD?
- the sudden white to purple change on his head-tail
- whatever that line is running down the center of his chest.
- the eyes are too big and "cutesy" (though I do like the color)
QUIT RUINING MY FAVORITE POKEMON. MEWTWO WAS PERFECTLY FINE LIKE HE WAS BEFORE.
For the record...
- an ugly new Pokemon doesn't bother me
- an ugly new evolution/pre-evolution of pre-existing Pokemon doesn't bother me
- an ugly new form of my favorite Pokemon DOES bother me because, based on past experience, 90% of that Pokemon's new merch will be in the new form.
I have been so excited about the possibility of new Mewtwo merch ever since mid-February, when it was revealed that Mewtwo would be in the movie. Some possible merch I was really looking forward to: Tomy or Pokemon Center plush, charms, clearfiles, Pokedoll, and especially the possibility of an ichiban kuji lottery figure! Now I have a sinking feeling that the ichiban kuji figure is going to be of the new form instead of the standard Mewtwo.
If you like this Pokemon, more power to you. As for me, I am seriously going to start flipping tables. Shame on you, Pokemon company, for getting my hopes up on new Mewtwo movie merch and then pulling something like this.
The only thing that will calm me down at this point is if it turns out to be a new Pokemon instead of a Mewtwo form-change. I would still hate it, but I would also quit complaining about it because I am capable of ignoring evolutions of existing Pokemon if I don't like them (looking at you, Glaceon).
For those who are wondering: I was having a bad afternoon anyway, but this has officially made it three times worse. Now excuse me while I go eat all the chocolate as an attempt to cheer myself up.
