Questions for all my friends who paint their nails.

First off, sorry to anyone who saw that incredibly whiny "woe is me!" post. Sometimes I need to write things down to get them off my chest. Sometimes I don't realize that such things should be kept to a private journal instead of sharing them on a public or f-locked post. I'm sorry if I made anyone have flashbacks to the early 2000's and Myspace and/or that one emo kid in your high school class who thought he was a poet. At least one good thing came out of it. I quite like the "playing my tiny violin" tag. I'll have to remember to use that in the future...

Anyway, after swearing off all "girly" habits when I was younger, I finally started painting my nails again. Because screw it, nail polish is pretty and painting my nails is fun and I don't care if I'm too "plain" or "unattractive" to pull that look off. I'm going to do it anyway. And maybe it will help me quit picking the skin around my nails too, if I knew that people were going to look at my hands.

It's been about 15 years since I last painted my nails. I did a sub-par job of it, but it could be worse, I guess.

I can't seem to get a decent picture, but the color is a sparkly blue. It's kind of pretty in person, though I'm not 100% sure if it was the right choice for my skin color. Maybe I should have picked something darker...

My main problem is this: how do I get it to stop being sticky?! It will be okay for a while, but every time I wash my hands, my nails get sticky again. I'm not sure why this is happening--I don't remember it happening when I was a kid--but it's extremely frustrating. For the record, I used two coats of nail polish (because one coat was too thin) and one coat of the clear top polish. This is the polish and the top coat that I used:

The SinfulColors nail polish was super cheap ($2), so I don't know if that has anything to do with the stickiness. Once I can figure out the correct way to do this, I'll upgrade to something of a bit higher quality.

Tips on how to get a more even coating or to prevent bubbles would be nice too. I did a pretty decent job on preventing bubbles, but I have two tiny ones on my index finger. As for the paint being even... well, I royally failed at that.

Also, is there a specific area I need to store the nail polish in to prevent it from going bad quickly? Right now it's near the bathroom sink, but I could probably find space in a dark cabinet if I needed to.

nostalgia trip, buying things i don't need, someday i will stop spamming my f-list, failure at everything, advice needed, the world revolves around me
