I've started to become addicted to Fire Emblem 6. I use it as my reward for doing productive things. It's amazing how much I've accomplished since I started using FE6 as an incentive. In the past I've tried motivating myself through internal pep talks ("you should do ____ because think of the long term benefits"), logic ("I know it's overwhelming, but it's never going to get done if you don't start somewhere"), and shame ("look at how much of a failure you are for not doing ____"), but none of them worked. But as soon as I start using Fire Emblem as a reward, I became super productive. I guess this proves that I'm still 10 years old, mentally.
The only problem is that it's making my carpal tunnel pain flare up, badly. ;___;
I've had mild carpal tunnel problems for about a decade, but most of the time it doesn't affect my daily life unless I'm doing something for hours (typing a lengthy essay) or doing something stupid (trying to lift heavy objects). Playing FE6 on the emulator though... this is the fastest/worst pain I've had in years. I'll play FE6 for an hour, and 12 hours later, I still can't move my wrist without it hurting. While the pain itself is annoying but bearable, I wish I could find a way to make it stop. My biggest concern is that I'll make my carpal tunnel syndrome worse. I've heard that it can require surgery if it gets too bad.
I tried switching the controls (A/B = F/D instead of X/Z), figuring that it would be easier on the nerve if the A button was in the "default" position of F. It helped a bit, but I still get pain if I play for more than 30 minutes. Does anyone have advice? I figured that at least one person on my f-list has probably dealt with something similar.
