Yesterday my mother mentioned that she wanted to watch Howl's Moving Castle again. Never one to turn down a Miyazaki film, I obliged. My mother is one of those people who won't stop asking questions during movies. I hadn't seen the film in a year or two, and in the middle of her questions, I realized that I had some questions of my own.
So, questions for the people who have watched Howl's Moving Castle:
First, the fact that Howl is a monster. Was that part of his "curse" after he made a contract with Calcifer, or is it just a wizard thing? I'm assuming that he was born human, since we never see his bird form in the flashback...
Second, I still do not understand the details of Sophie's curse. Sometimes she appears young and sometimes old and sometimes in between. Is there any rhyme or reason to when she switches? (I had several theories about this, but none of them can support every change that occurs in the movie.) Also, how was her curse broken? Directly after the Witch of the Waste was "defeated", Sophie is still old, leading me to believe that the two events didn't have any cause and effect relationship.
Before anyone asks: Yes, I have watched the movie multiple times. I have also read the book, though it was a few years ago and I don't remember much about it except that Howl was even more of a brat. I apologize if these are really obvious questions. I have scratched my head over them for a while but cannot figure them.
PS - LJ keeps deleting ALL of my line and paragraph breaks when I try to edit my sales posts. It's kind of infuriating. I'm about to just throw up my hands in frustration and sell my stuff on ebay instead.
