There are two snowmen and a snow-dinosaur outside my window. Watching other people build snowmen makes me wish I had friends in my dorm. ;__;
Yesterday I saw a tree split at the trunk and fall into the street. The sidewalks have been cleared at least twice, but it still keeps piling up. The snow is ankle-deep on the sidewalks; I didn't even check the height in the grass. Needless to say, school has been canceled again. Why hello there, five day weekend.
I wasn't planning on spamming my f-list (again) with my fangirl rantings, but if I need to vent about this. There's a HUGE One Piece spoiler ahead; you have been warned...
Oda doesn't kill characters. Ever. So at the end of last week's chapter, even though Ace was
punched through the gut with a magma fist, I was positive that he would survive. After all, this is shounen manga; standard medical rules don't apply. And did I mention that the author has not killed a single character in 570+ chapters? So when Ace actually died, I was speechless. He wasn't one of my favorite characters, but I was starting to like him more and more as the series progressed. I started to tear up at the end of the chapter. Honestly, I probably would have cried if the chapter title didn't spoil the scene.
Character deaths don't usually bother me. I think it's the context that makes this one so depressing. Saving Ace was the entire point of the arc. After all that Luffy went through to rescue Ace, cheating death a few times in the process, he finally managed to stop Ace's execution... only for Ace to get killed minutes later during their escape. Add to that the fact that Ace died while protecting him, and that he practically died in Luffy's arms...
Honestly, I'm more depressed about Luffy's situation than Ace's, because Luffy has to live with the consequences. After this, I think he'll finally realize how powerless he is compared to the veterans, and that he can't always count on luck and determination to win. I just hope he retains his optimistic personality.
Of course, part of me is thrilled at this plot twist because I did not see it coming. It feels wonderful to read a story when you have no idea what will happen next.
And speaking of characters dying...
Karin isn't dead. Why isn't Karin dead? She got
impaled through the chest with a lightning bolt for goodness sake! I was terribly excited when Sasuke "killed" her, not because I dislike her, but because I'm sick of fans pairing Sasuke with Karin, Sakura, Naruto... or anyone, really. He won't hesitate to harm or kill anyone else who gets in his way, including teammates. Why people think he harbors romantic feelings for anybody is beyond me...
As a side note, Sakura is becoming emo and annoying. Again. I thought she got over that during the time skip. =/
Is it just me, or is this the week of character deaths? I think the mangakas all met and said, "Let's see
how many characters we can
kill in one week, shall we?" Of course, whether they all stay dead is another matter. I hate miraculous revivals...
One of my friends showed me this and I thought it was cute.
Avatar Valentines cards. I know at least one person on my f-list is an Avatar fan. ;)
Edit: A random thought: why does everyone call Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray "lions"? From the moment they were released, I always assumed they were tigers. After all, Luxray has stripes on its legs, and it's "mane" isn't a gender-determined trait like a lion's. (I've always thought the "mane" was really just fur standing up due to extra static electricity.) Plus, isn't Luxray's Japanese name Rentoraa? Tora = tiger, yes?
