I never thought I'd see the day...

It's snowing outside. I never imagined that this would happen (considering I now live in the northeast, the land of perpetual snow and decent road crews), but all of my classes have been canceled tomorrow. That's right: six hours of class, all canceled! =D

This means I can sleep in for once! As an added bonus, the due date of my algorithms homework ( Read more... )

I never write because I don't never have the time or patience to sit down and do it, but I picture things a lot in my head. Like a lot of the time when I'm daydreaming, I just start picturing my characters in my head and play out everything like it's a movie (occasionally with neat artistic angles and nice background music XD). Eventually it gets to the point where I've imagined the "movie" so many times that I have it ingrained in my head and if I really wanted, writing it down would probably be really easy. As for expanding on major events in your story, what helps me the most is picturing the event from different characters' point of view. When you look at things from a different point of view, you notice/find more things to write about.

Sorry if that all sounded confusing. I'm just weird and keep a lot of crazy details in my head, so that may not work for everyone. ^_^;

I used to do that with certain scenes in my fanfics. XD Unfortunately, I could never find the exact words to put my thoughts on to paper; it was always close, but not quite what I wanted. Hopefully it will be a bit easier now, since my vocabulary has expanded a little bit.

Viewing things from different points of view is a great idea! Thanks.

Rain != snow. Sorry to break it to you. D:

I suck at writing too, but I just had an epiphany: the only way I can get better... is to write. It's amazing how that works, isn't it?

Yeah, I guess cliche was a bad choice of words. Perhaps "uninteresting" would be better. It's never any fun if you have characters who fit too tightly into stereotypes.

I generally think of characters first, and then story. I'll try flipping my priorities for a while to see what I come up with. Thanks.

I try my hardest not to make them 100% perfect, but half of the time they end up 90-95% perfect even though that wasn't my intention. XD

YEA I KNOW it was just me being jealous of your weather >:U THATS ALL!!!!!!!

yea i think i should too but im too paranoid when it comes to my writing. XDD I DONT THINK I CAN FFFFF.

i mean....IDK If that's how everyone works it, but its what works for me... c:> I find a lot of the time the story really helps shape a character, too.

and looool i am largely the opposite. my characters are ridiculously flawed that i have to try harder to make them more realistic sometimes. I MEAN JUST HOW MUCH CAN ONE PERSON DEAL WITH. D:

2. Something that I've always tried to do was put fears into characters. But this mostly came from some class in high school that I now don't remember what it was, where we got a sheet listing a bunch of different fears. So from then on, I decided to put a fear into each of my characters regardless of what fear it was (like there's a fear of bees and insects, the number thirteen, lightning, etc.) I think that's a good way to help make them realistic, because everyone has a fear of something right ( ... )

Most of my characters were fanfiction Sues that branched off to become more general characters... and hopefully less Sue-ish.

Honestly, the more information I can put on paper, the better. (I just need to find an efficient way to store it.) I used to keep everything in my head, but I forgot a lot of it after I started college. It's almost like my mind went through the Dark Ages...
