Can you guess what my final project is based on?
How about now?
(I hate my scanner with a passion. Three passions in fact)
A few people expressed interest in the little book I made a while ago for my Make Do and Mend project. To elaborate on this, we were instructed to go into a charity shop and find an object. Mine was an amazing brass teapot that looked like a magic lamp. Our task was to make a book inspired by the object. Everyone else was sensible and made notebooks and organisers and diaries but I had to be difficult and make mine a story book. I'll post the actual story in a separate post as it won't fit in this one. In the meantime, this is how the book ended up-
Well this is beautiful and blurry. The cover was an acetate collage that I printed onto fabric and then sewed into. For the lulz, I have given myself a pretentious pen name as all good writers either have two first names or two initials. Also, my full name is RUBBISH. I hate the way it sort of rhymes but doesn't. If I ever become published/famous I am going to go by something very exciting, let me tell you.
The first page that isn't the title page. The whole book looks quite worn and obviously handmade but that was sort of the idea. It's a story about a town struck by a seemingly everlasting winter which can only be lifted by brewing a special kind of tea in a magic tea pot (You'll understand if you read the next entry). I wrote it during the time my own village was completely covered in snow (it came to above my knees!) out of fascination and frustration. The snow looked and felt so magical that it begged to have a story written about it but at the same time it was vair dull not being able to go anywhere. I originally meant to illustrate it as well but it was only a two week project so I realised that was a bit ambitious
As this story features lots of everyday teas performing magical tasks (again, read the story and you'll understand), I decided to put a little information section in the back about their real properties. These pages decided to come out of the binding when I scanned them which probably shows the extent of my binding skills. The gold things are actually stickers I made to go with the book which are supposed to be stuck on your favourite box of tealeaves/bags/whatever.
