Konrad was eating his lunch in the courtyard. He had been looking at a document he needed to sign, and it seemed to take hours, and he was now glad for the break. As he ate, he couldn’t help but let his mind wander to Yozak and that day, over two weeks ago. He hadn’t seen his best friend? Since…
Yozak was trapesing through the courtyard when he noticed the burnet tucked away under one of the larger trees. It had been awhile. Things had been busy. Something is always coming up with such a crazy set of personalities in one castle. Still, he wondered if they had been avoiding seeing each other after.... Well, no time like the present. He walked softly on trained spy feet before leaning himself against the rugged bark. "Oi, Captain, that looks healthy. I usually prefer the heartier stuff myself. I'll have to get Doria to make you her famous stew sometime."
Speak of the devil. Konrad smiled, and looked up at his friend. “Oh? I know Greta really enjoyed it. I’m sure it’s very good.” He said, before patting the ground next to himself in offering. He took another bite of the sandwich he was eating, and washed it down with a jug of water, before offering the water unconsciously to Yozak. “Heartier stuff, hmm? And if you don’t eat healthy, how do you keep your…girlish figure?” He asked, teasing slightly about their parting last time they were together?
He doesn't catch the reference as anything more than his often questionable choices for disguise, but it makes him smile as he slides down next to the slightly smaller man. "I keep moving and then it can't catch up to me."
Konrad laughed at the other’s somewhat whimsical response. Yozak never liked being serious, and only had to when it was needed, a complete opposite to himself, really. “Ah. I should try that sometime, than.” He said with a straight face after his laughing subsided.
"Well, whatever you are doing now is working for you I think." He snaps off a lecherous wink in Conrad's direction before sprawling himself out on the grass, arms under his head and legs lazily crossed.
Konrad had to fight down his blush that wanted to appear at Yozak’s words. Not to mention that look. “Ah…thank you.” He said, looking down at his half empty plate. He took another bite of his sandwich, followed by two more before sipping at his water. He looked down to see Yozak spread out comfortably, and smiled at him.
"You better not be thinking of throwing leaves at me while I'm all relaxed, Captain." He laughed to himself, "No, I guess I'm thinking of me, not you."
Konrad rolled his eyes, and finished up his sandwich, all for a lone lettuce leaf that had escaped onto his plate earlier. He always let his guard slip slightly when around Yozak-he made him feel younger. Eyeing the lettuce leaf, he slowly picked it up, and paused for a moment. He really shouldn’t…but…He threw the leaf at his friend, before quickly trying to look innocent. Yozak always brought out the worst/best side of him. He could never tell which it was.
He laughed when the green leaf flutter its way onto his nose. "I guess I asked for that didn't I?" He picks it up and stuffs it in his mouth and makes a show of swallowing. "If that's the world of healthy, I think I"ll pass." He gives his long time friend a wry smile.
Perfect Aim. He grinned at the other childishly, before watching him eat the leaf. He laughed at the expression on his friends’ face, before rolling his eyes. “Not everything healthy tastes like that.” He sighed contently, and leaned back against the tree trunk more.
He knows that perfectly well, but he has an image to maintain. "No? Maybe you'll have to prove that sometime, Captain."
Konrad nodded. “Hmm. After I taste that stew.” He says, playing along. He’d known Yozak too long to not know what most of his eating habits were-and the man ate plenty of things that were healthy. Liked them, even.
Yozak ran his fingers through the long, lush grass. It always seemed softer in Shin Makoku than in other lands. It was nice assuming Anissina wasn't behind it. "It's a deal." This is nice. Nice day. Nice banter. Nice being near Konrad. He wonders if they'll need to talk about the two weeks or what came before it. That would be...less nice.
“It’s a deal,” He repeated, before holding out his hand to shake on it. This was pleasant. It was almost perfect. He only thing was the fact that two weeks ago was nagging at the back of his mind. What…were they?
He isn't going to be the one to bring it up. He stretches a bit and makes himself comfortable again. "The wind is shifting. It will rain tomorrow."
Rain tomorrow, hmm? He nodded. “Ah, well than…I should stay out here as long as it’s nice, if I’m to be stuck indoors all tomorrow.” He said, before turning to the other. “Yozak…about the other day…?”
"Reading the weather patterns was something I learned from my papa." He never calls them birth father and adopted father. People have to guess or assume. This time he means birth. He knows which day he means, but he almost asks anyway. Stupid. It isn't like him to play games. "Hai, Captain?"
Konrad smiled at the other talking about his father. He wasn’t sure which one-except he had an inkling that it was his birth father. The nameless village’s weather was severe and changed at the snap of the finger at times. He shifted to his side so he could look at the other, and dropped his voice-feeling shy. “Ah…I don’t think we ever finished our conversation, Yozak…do you…?”
"Finished? Nah, I don't suppose we did." He sits up and picks up a stick that he starts poking at the ground aimlessly.
He didn’t know how to continue this conversation, he frowned softly. “Ah…so…ah…that is…” He was stumped as to how to put it into words.
He turns to look at Konrad and gently pokes his leg with the stick. "Come on, Captain, you've ordered me into almost certain doom before. Can this be so much harder?" But it is. Somehow it is...
Konrad frowned at the other, watching the spot where he had been poked. “Yozak…than you tell me, hmm?” He tried, sighing as he leaned his head against the tree trunk.
Yozak: "I'd love to, Captain. What do you want me to tell you?"
Konrad looked back over at the other, and bit his lip for a second. “What…what do you want…?”
"What a question." He scrapes the stick over the blades of grass. They underside is lighter. "I want the ground below me, the wind at my back, food in my belly, and the occasional frock." Two parts down home honesty and one part levity.
Konrad sighed, and turned away from the other. Here, he was being serious, and Yozak was making jokes. Maybe to Yozak…it wasn’t anything special he wanted from him…or maybe he’d decided he didn’t want him. He didn’t know what to say. “Ah. Heika will make sure you always have those things.” He gathered his water bottle and empty plate that held his food, and stood, nodding a goodbye to the other.
Yozak watched him go. He wasn't one to talk about his feelings and neither was Konrad. He had always been a man of actions. But he remained still. He wasn't sure what action to take just yet, and it was a nice day. Maybe he would just lie there a little longer.
He had paused for a moment, just standing with his back to his friend, but there were no words, so he left, first making a stop to the kitchen to dispose of his plate and bottle. He felt so confused, and somewhat upset. He hadn’t known that Yozak could make a joke at such a serious matter. Maybe…maybe it was just serious to him. He’d never really stopped to ever have a relationship or sorts before, and if he had, he was a romantic like his father was-not one to give feelings away so easily-or let his pants down easily either.
