Chapter 23
The Alpha couple woke up with additional body between them, a female one. With a small lamp turned on, Yixing could see her unhealthily pale skin with shadows of cuts scattered around her body. A few more big meals and all of them should disappear soon. Her sleeping face was peaceful and pretty. She was a classical beauty. She reminded him of Victoria a little bit. He slowly got up, careful not to stir her and Kris awake. Yixing grabbed his medical coat and spread it on top of the female. It’s not nice to wake up naked in the arms of a stranger.
He quietly retreated from the room and went to the kitchen. Kyungsoo, Luna and Victoria were already there preparing breakfast.
“Kyungsoo, you should rest a little bit more.” He said.
“But I’m fine! Look!” The submissive complained and showed his wrists. There were only faint reddish lines. “I’m almost like new!”
“Okay, okay.” Yixing patted his head.
“How is she?” Victoria glanced at him.
“Better. She changed.”
“And what did she say?” Luna asked.
“Nothing. She’s still sleeping. A few more meals and all of her wounds and ribs should be healed completely. The bigger problem would be her leg.” Yixing said.
“Why? What’s wrong with it?”
“It was broken and healed wrongly. I’ll need to break it again.” He sighed heavily.
“Ouch.” Kyungsoo winced.
“Yeah, ouch.” Yixing agreed and walked to their wardrobe to take some clothes for the female.
When he came back to the cell, the woman was already stirring in his mate’s arms. She slowly woke up. He knew that Kris wasn’t sleeping since he went to kitchen but just didn’t show it.
She was quite disoriented. Instinctively she grabbed a coat on top of her and pressed it harder to her body.
“Beauty, you’re safe. Here, these should fit well.” He passed her the clothes. She put them on as quickly as she could. In meanwhile, Kris also got up, kissed Yixing in the temple and sat on the bed. When she finished dressing, he patted the place next to him. With a small hesitation and stumble she sat there. After a minute, Yixing sat on her opposite side.
“So what’s your name, honey?” Yixing asked.
“I’m Fei.” She answered in a small voice. “Where is the woman? The witch?”
“Our friend took care of her. You won’t meet her again. Ever. None of us will.” Kris assured her.
“Who are you, Fei? Do you have any family to call?” Yixing tried to gain as much information about her while not pushing it too much.
“I’m… I was an exchange student. But around a month ago I was attacked while coming back to the dorms. It was a robbery. They stabbed me and left me to die.” She shuddered at the memories. Kris patted her knee in reassurance. “I… I was saved by some guy. At first I thought he wanted to.. I don’t know… rape me or something… but instead he changed me into a werewolf. After that he was teaching me to how change on my own, use my instincts and so on. He told me to call him Lee. But around a week ago, we both got kidnapped and imprisoned in the witch’s place,” she shivered. “And then she killed him first… after him she… she went for me… she… stabbed me… cut me… and… and…” her voice broke and she started to cry. Kris encircled her in his arms and let her sob into his chest. Yixing patted her back.
“Honey, we don’t want you to dwell on your traumatic memories but did the witch break your leg too?” The pack’s doctor asked. She nodded. “Right now, you won’t be able to walk normally. It’s healed wrongly.” She looked at him with so much fright that it squeezed his heart. “I can fix it and help you to heal correctly but it means we will need to break it again.” She brought her legs under her chin and pressed harder to Kris like Yixing would jump and hurt her any moment from now. “Fei, I won’t do anything unless you want me to. And I surely won’t do it right now. You’re too weak for that.” She relaxed a bit. “Also, we will have breakfast soon. Would you like to eat with us or should I bring it to you here?” He smiled at her with his dimple showing.
“I… I’d like to eat breakfast with you.” She expressed.
“You’re brave, Fei.” Kris complimented and petted her hair. She leaned into his touch. “After breakfast, you should call your family. They probably miss you.” He smiled at her. She was opening her mouth to ask something when the doors opened and Jongdae stood in them.
“I’m here to inform you that Kangta and Boa already…” He immediately halted when Fei’s scent came to him. He suddenly lunged forward but was quickly caught by Yixing’s steel like grip. Fei whimpered, scared at the sudden action and hugged Kris’ body tighter but she didn’t look away from Jongdae’s face. The pair of golden eyes were staring at her.
“Mate.” Jongdae growled lowly.
“Are you serious?” Yixing looked at him completely shocked and baffled.
“First an interracial couple, now this? What’s next?” Kris complained.
***Kris, Yixing and Jongdae helped Fei walk down the end of the stairs and ground floor corridor. It still surprised Yixing that the female, as terrorized as she was before, quickly agreed to be touched by a stranger who suddenly claimed to be her mate. But who he was to judge people, especially with his own story in mind?
The corridor was already quite crowded with the whole pack trying to see the new werewolf and the Alpha of the Alpha’s at once. There was too much excitement in one moment and place. Above them, he saw Kangta and Boa with an armful of Kyungsoo still next to the front doors.
“Pups, to the dining room! Now! Jongdae, you stay.” Kris barked loudly. He was met with a bunch groans of disappointment but everyone obeyed. Even Kyungsoo who was hard to pull apart from Boa heeded to the command.
“Hi there,” said Kangta. “I see you have your hands full.”
“Don’t even give me that. The past two weeks were just crazy. Adding Kyungsoo to that, it makes a mad half of the year.” Kris rubbed his temples.
“And this is your newest wolf?” Boa took a closer look at Fei.
“She’s not mine. That depends your guys’ decision and whether she assents to that. But apparently Jongdae’s wolf claimed her as his mate.”
“Already?” Boa asked, baffled.
“Yeah and that’s not where my problem ends with the sudden couples.” Kris sighed again for the nth time that day. “But can we talk about it after breakfast?”
***The pack’s table in the dining room was full. It was filled with food and people around, the sound of chit-chats and shouts engulfing the place. It reminded Kyungsoo of his first breakfast here. However, now, his old place was taken by Fei who got caught by Victoria in her motherly mode. Even Joonmyeon couldn’t stop her this time. Kris sat between Yixing and Kangta. Boa sat beside her mate, next to Kyungsoo and Kai. After a quick catch up with Boa from their last phone conversation, the submissive looked at Jongdae. He was staring holes at Fei. When she noticed his stares she would shyly hang her head lowly but Kyungsoo could clearly tell that she was peeking at Jongdae through her fringe. It was so cute! But he wasn’t the only one who noticed their behavior. Soon, Lu Han started teasing them. Kai joined in, of course.
Kris then told them what he heard from Calvin, the results of the interrogation. The witch apparently wanted to gain more power by using some nasty spell like immorality for herself, or something similar. She already killed a few supernatural beings before. Fei’s friend wasn’t her first victim. And yes, she was definitely a black witch without much proper knowledge. However, none of the covens owned up to knowing her. So she was probably self-studying magic. She was killed, burned and buried with salt. Her apprentice and ‘workplace’ were also removed.
Kyungsoo breathed a sigh of relief. No coven meant no revenge. He also saw everyone in his pack feel relieved by the information. After the announcement, they became even louder and more cheerful.
Kyungsoo smiled at all of them. Even though Kangta and Boa, or their newest friend - Fei, weren’t members of his pack they fitted nicely into the picture. It definitely felt like family. With all the familiar people gathered around the table, Kyungsoo felt safe and would gladly, without a second thought, entrust his own life to them. They would be there to support him whenever he would face any obstacles, enemies or fears. It wasn’t just a ‘pack’. No. It was a real family. They loved each other, even if they had their daily arguments, would shout at each other, and joked and teased one another. In any type of situation, he knew that they could count on each other. Without any exception. And he was part of this family.
Kai kissed his temple and smiled at him.
I love you, Kai said through their bond. He grabbed the Kyungsoo’s hand under the table.
I love you too.
Home. He was home with his mate. He had finally found his own place in this world. Here.
