As Merlin gets older his health problems increase. I understand that's usual in many cats, but still *sigh*. In general, for a 10 year old cat he's quite robust, there are however a few problems. He has scar tissue in his upper respiratory tract, a result of a bad lung infecton as a kitten, this means he can periodically wheeze or snore, but that's not too serious. He has his urinary tract problems, if her doesn't eat a certain kind of specially (and relatively pricey) dry food he develops severe kitty-cystitis (ouch!). He also has gingivitis, but again, it's managable and not too severe. Now it seems a growing number of the commercial cat foods are too rich for his wee kitty-tummy and he vomits soon after eating them. The main culprit would appear to be fish, so when shopping I have to be very aware of what's going into the supermarket trolly. Thing is, just like a lot of humans, Merlin tunrs his little pink nose (not that all humans possess a little pink nose of course) up at the healthier foods in favour of the stuff that's not so good for him. It's just a matter of doing research, getting advice and finding a happy medium.
