Title: Of Pi and Jealousy
Characters: Yamashita Tomohisa, Ikuta Toma, Oguri Shun, Horikita Maki, mentions of Matsumoto Jun and other TomaPi friends.
Pairings: TomaPi [and I deem all other pairs I might've mentioned insignificant]
Rating: G
Genre: Fluff [my first non-angsty lit]
Summary: Toma gets a day off, and Pi is PMS-ing over someone[s]. My take on what happened before Valentine's.
Disclaimer: Mine. In my head.
a/n: self-beta'ed, so ideas/tenses all over the place. Not supposed to be a Valentine fic, but I was held up by various school activities and I never found time to finish it so I decided to tweak it and make it a pre-valentine's fic [which obviously does not work when it gets posted post-holiday]. Forgive me if my Tomohisa is OOC, I like him constantly trying to tie a leash around someone as popular as Toma because Toma's just endearing that way. And this wasn't written in one go, so the ideas maybe jumping to and fro-- yep sorry, terrible block. anywyas, comments are much loved.
“MURIIIIIIIIIIII!”
“YOU, shush!” the older one, blushing out of embarrassment scolds the other. People from the restaurant turn to look at the young couple, whispering and pointing glances at them. One very uneasy Ikuta Toma squirms under the gazes, and sighs to himself. We're in public damnit, why can't he learn that paparazzi are everywhere? Now everyone's staring. Piiiiii. Said person pouts childishly, cheeks puffing out in an annoying but oh-so adorable manner.
“NO! You get a day off after how many months of filming--”
“Seven,”
“Seven! And don't interrupt me! Now where was I? Oh, right. Seven months of filming, and you get three days off. Three days Ikuta,” the older one flinches, “and you plan to spend it with who?”
“Matsujun.” and Toma looks down, unable to stand the younger's scowl.
“Bloody Matsujun! You can get all mad because I'm busy with NEWS and drama filmings too and we never go out, but for you to tell me that those three days of your freedom-- one of which is Valentines, may I remind you, will be spent with someone who is not me, and is the third wheel of the most member-ai--flaunty band in our Jimusho, I will not have it. Hell no!” and by now Yamashita Tomohisa is fuming with rage, smoke coming out of his nose and ears. He knows he is in the right, not just because he's childish and possessive and Toma's MINE and I don't share! The two of them barely meet each other-- Toma's schedule is packed with drama filmings and play rehearsals, while Pi has his own share of dramas and band activities. The younger one can't deny that he has his faults-- being the leader of a seemingly dysfunctional band (that was before, now they were all so into member-ai that it gives fangirls cavities) was never easy, and he sincerely thanks the other for not demanding his time especially when concerts are only a month away. Yes, his Toma was very understanding and he knows he should do the same, but spending Valentine's with someone else was another matter altogether!
“Tomohisa, calm down, we'll attract attention. And don't make it sound like work is prison or something, I enjoy the dramas and the butai, just like I know you enjoy working with your band.” And Toma really, REALLY makes an effort to sound sweet and convincing, because he knows that the mixed-up schedules isn't the issue here. He can't confront the younger one, at least not here where there are silverware and plates and innocent civilians trying to have decent Italian dinner. He would not risk having World War III because his lover was clingy and unable to comprehend the fact that Toma, although his, was not some property that can be bought and labelled as Pi's. His lover looks very unconvinced and so he continues, “And it's not like we planned anything beforehand. Look, I'm really sorry that I didn't think about you first but Matsujun--”
Pi's ears stop functioning altogether at the mention of Jun, not hearing Toma's explanation that the appointment was planned months before, and that Jun was inviting Toma to formally introduce one femme fatale as his girlfriend formally. That name again! Right now not even Takki or his beloved puppies can calm him down. What is it with Matsumoto? Why is he so overly friendly with Toma, dragging him whenever he wants to go somewhere, the two of them always drinking out late even when there was a performance the next day? The younger one knows he is number one in Toma's heart-- hell, the whole Jimusho was aware of that-- just like Toma is in his, but he can't figure out for the life of him what number Jun is. Sure, categories like 'family', 'respected senpai', 'batchmates', and 'adorable kouhais' exist, because Toma is a crowd favorite, but Jun never fit into any of those. It was Jun, all alone in another category and Pi was not too keen on that idea. And ever since they were juniors, Jun was-- still is, he makes a mental note-- a bit possessive over Toma as well. And his lover may be a bit too blind to notice.
Don't get Pi wrong, he is a very generous and thoughtful person. But he knows how Matsumoto errrr I'm so pissed off! tends to act towards Toma, and that he cannot stand. What he cannot stand more is Toma's belief that Jun is nice just because. Besides, wasn't it already enough the he allowed Toma to go with Matsujun to the NEWS' Winter Concert? He was obviously upset that Toma was with Jun, but he let it pass since it was the older's first time at his band's live in Tokyo Dome. And Toma didn't even tell him that he was going to see the Arashi Concert, but that issue was made up for by twelve dates and one happy Christmas together. He can share Jin or Ryo, he'd even willingly give up Shuuji-kun [albeit probably earning a scowl and headbutt from Jin afterwards], but sharing Ikuta Toma with Matsumoto Jun was definitely not an option while he was breathing, and he was going to get that point across his lover's thick skull one way or another.
“Tomo? Tomo, don't space out... TOMO!” and the self-talk is finished and he is once again facing Toma's searching eyes.
“Wh-whe-wha?”
“I said,” and Toma chooses his words carefully, afraid that any moment the pin to the bomb that is Pi's wrath will be taken off. “Cancelling on Jun really isn't in my list of options. Maybe I can make it up to you? I'll get you anything you want.” and he smiles his sweetest, just in case.
“No.” is the stern reply. He activates his puppy eyes complex almost reflexively, tears already brimming his eyes, completely masking the plotting mind. What Yamashita Tomohisa wants, Yamashita Tomohisa gets. To convince the older one, he switches his acting skills on as well, and his voice breaks a little as he continues, “No, I don't want that. It's Valentine's Day, and you're spending it with someone else. I don't even want to know what you will be doing with him. We just managed to get our breaks synchronized and you go off with Jun-kun somewhere.” and as he hangs his head low, he wonders if he's still acting, or is it the insecurity card showing itself.
“Tomohisa, look--”
“I'm not hearing it,” and this time it's not an act. Somewhere in the lines of his internalization he realizes he really doesn't want Toma wandering off to who-knows-where, doesn't want to hear his alibis, doesn't want to know what he'll be up to when the younger one's not there. “It's fine Tou-chan, I don't want to hear it, I guess-- I guess I'll just ask Jin or someone to...” and he murmurs the last incoherent bit of the sentence, head still bowed down, afraid to meet the other's worried gaze. He knows being overly possessive is wrong but he can't help it: the threat of others taking away his Tou-chan is always a corner away, first with their senpais (that Kanashimi no Princess e~ performance still angers him to this day), then with that Azumi girl, and then HorikitaMakichan. Not to mention all their friends, which is technically not a problem since most people in their circle are hitched, save for some of Toma's friends. He's still recovering from Toma's sudden closeness with his Voice co-stars, he didn't need another issue to fuel his burning self-doubt.
His tears are about to fall when he feels Toma scooping him up and hugging him. He figures he must have been in deep thought that he didn't notice the other stand up. He lets his arm hand loose around the older's back, his head finding its familiar place in that spot, and he presses his eyes on Toma's shoulder. The people around them are whispering to each other, perhaps scandalized at the two idols, but he doesn't care. Inhaling Toma's scent, he focuses his thoughts on this one moment, this one instance which can intoxicate him for who knows how long. I still want my Valentine's date!, a chibi Yamashita says in his head, and he wonders for a while if he can actually get to spend this year's festival with Toma, because the older one was busy with drama promotions with various girls during this season in the last two years. He slowly stirs when he hears the other one call his name.
“Huh?”
“Your phone. I need to borrow it, I left mine at home.”
“O-oh. Okay. Here.” and he steps out of the hug just a bit, and gives his mobile to Toma. He looks expectantly, waiting for something-- anything, his curiousity piqued at who the older man wants to call. He is shocked when he hears Toma sigh and mutter “Come here”, pulling him in for another hug. It takes a few seconds for the act to sink in, but this one he responds to, finally, his face buried in the older's chest, his hands clasping over the other's back. Toma says something about selling him off to the nearest pet store for being 'too cute and adorably jealous', to which he replies a muffled 'dun wanna'. Toma laughs, pushes him back a bit to look at him, and asks with a childish grin, “So where are we off to this Valentine's?”
And he hears it, but cannot process the information, so he settles for the first place he can think of. “Chiiba.”
“Chiiba? Why are we going to your home?”
“Rina. She wants to see you. Says she misses you.” A pout.
“A-re, jealous much?” a laugh from Toma. “And does she not watch my dramas?”
“I am NOT JEALOUS,” and the younger marks the last two words for emphasis, “and I don't know, she said she wants to see you, besides, we-- wait, we're really going to Chiiba?”
“You have anywhere else in mind?” Toma asks.
“No, I mean-- wait, I thought YOU had plans...” and again with the bitterness and jealousy in his voice. Why can't he keep it down?
“Well, would you rather have it that I spend Valentine's with Jun?” and Pi shakes his head furiously, earning a hearty laugh from Toma. “I guess I could bear with Jun's wrath just this once, besides you were with Maki-chan last year for Kurosagi promotions, right?” and Toma's voice is laced with nothing except amusement at his lover's crazy antics and mood swings. “It'll be good to spend quality time with you again,” and he tightens his hug, making soothing circles on the younger's back with his left hand, the right one fumbling for a familiar number in Pi's mobile. He waits for a moment, and the line connects.
“Moshi moshi?” the other line cackles, voice tainted with sleep.
“Sano?”
“Eh--?”
“Rui..”
“Kimi wa dare?”
“SANO IZUMI...”
“Eh? Eh-- I'm serious, who's this?”
“OGUSHUN!”
“Etooo~ eh, Toma? Hey man, what's up?”
“Hey man, not much. Anoooo-- look, you busy tomorrow?”
“Well, yeah, kind of. Why, asking me out on a date?”
“NO!!” and Pi also shouts that one, the conversation being delivered crystal clear to his ears given his distance. The younger one pushes Toma back, sending him newly-sharpened daggers so that the older one gulps reflexively.
“A-re, is Yamashita-kun with you?”
“Well-- kind of-- yeah,” and Toma sighs, shakes his head, and breathes deeply before continuing, “listen, if it's not much of a bother, can you meet Matsujun tomorrow? We were supposed to go out but someone wouldn't get off of my case and wanted me to cancel”--“I want my date with you!!”--“Urusai na!! Ehh sorry Shun, apparently he's PMS-ing today and hasn't taken his pills yet. As I was saying, could you maybe, just maybe take your date and meet Jun? He wants to introduce me to some girl she's been dating, but we all know it's Mao-chan so I was hoping I'd face his wrath sometime later. Please please please do me this favor? I'll clean your room for a week, I promise!” and at this, Toma looks at Pi for acknowledgement, only to see that the younger's eyes are wide with shock; he most definitely does not want Toma snooping around other people's bedrooms, best friend or no best friend!
Toma hears Shun sigh on the other line, and he tries to take back the request, but the look on Pi's face distracts him and Shun beats him to it, speaking in a nonchalant voice, “Fine, I'll bear with Jun for tomorrow since we haven't seen each other since New Years. But you owe me Toma, you're my maid and cook for a month, not to mention my personal alarm clock. You still have some clothes here so don't worry about staying overnight--”
“DAME!!!” was Pi's indignant shout, promptly ignored by his lover because a girl on the other line shouted the same thing.
“Shun... Who's with you?”
“Ah, hehe. Maki's here, actually. I guess, bad timing?”--“Shun you better put down that phone right now and explain yourself!”--“Hai hon-- itai! Don't hit me with your heels dear!”--“EXPLAIN NOW!”
“Oooh, that's got to hurt. She's jealous of me as much as Pi's jealous of you?”
Shouts of “I AM NOT JEALOUS!” can be heard both from Maki and Pi, the girl following it with “You're on speakerphone honey, I can hear you perfectly well. I'm not jealous, but you better pick up your clothes first thing after your date with Yamashita-kun or I will personally incinerate them, got it?” Toma stutters an incomprehensible reply akin to 'hai'; he seriously wonders how this is the same demure girl the public sought after.
“Look Toma I have to go, talk to you later ok?” and Shun hangs up before Toma even realizes what happened. Pi on the other hand, looks extremely elated, judging from his ear-reaching grin. He could almost turn chibi from all the giddiness he feels, and he proceeds to glomp Toma happily, squeaking like a two-year old with a very hideous sugar high.
“Pi-uhhh.. Pi I-- uhnnn.. can't--” pant “can't breathe.. Tomohisa!”
“H-hai----?” and Pi draws away, looks at Toma and sees him struggling to breathe, and he smiles sheepishly at it. “So-sorry Tou-chan, I got carried away.”
“Ssss-- s'okay.”
“Hug you again?”
“Ye-yeah, just-- just not too tight,” pant, breathe in, breathe out “yes?”
“Hai!” and Pi hugs his Toma again, buries his face in the other's chest, reveling in the warmth, and in the thought that he will have his Valentine's with Toma after all. Toma draws Pi closer to him, not caring about the incredulous stares they are receiving from other people, not aware that once again he's giving in to the younger's bratty wants, just relieved that at last Pi is not throwing a hissy fit due to jealousy. Pi mumbles something that gets muffled in Toma's shirt so the older has to ask “Come again?”
“I--” and Pi blushes from the neck up, pink tainting his cheeks warmly. “Love you.”
“Hmmm.”
“Love you Tou-chan.” and he hides his face again, not wanting to hear an answer, not wanting Toma to see him embarrassed. But he hears Toma's reply crystal clear, and he knows that one day he has to eventually share Toma with other people because he's that kind of popular, but maybe he'll be selfish for a little longer. He knows he'll eventually share, but maybe not just yet.
“Love you too, TomoPi.”
And Pi's smile is the brightest.
