Gubmint meddling (again)

Sep 07, 2010 12:42

According to this article, the gubmint (via HMRC) are planning to take control of working people being paid their salaries, due to the number of fuck-ups by HMRC when assigning tax codes to people, resulting in thousands of people being sent bills for additional income tax, and thousands more being sent rebates.

Under the plan, your employer will send your GROSS salary to HMRC, who will then deduct the correct* amount of tax, NI etc, and then forward the net amount to you. So, that'll be the same bunch of people who send out wrong tax codes to people all the time (my dad's had the wrong tax code sent to him 3 times in the last 4 years) in charge of making sure that, um, they take the right amount of money from YOUR salary.
You won't get a payslip from your employer any more - because they won't know how big the deductions are. If there's a cock-up, you'll have to complain to, um, the people running the system.
HMRC will then obviously need your bank details in order to send the money to you, so that'll be another database that will need to exist, containing (at a guess) your name, DOB, address, NI number, and bank account details. Of course, there will be no problem with that, because the government & it's agencies never loses data or breaches security.

Dear Gubmint/HMRC,

With regard to your plans to take over the handling of employee salary payments in the UK, I offer the following considered response:

FUCK OFF.

No love,

Kynon
