I have new buttons! And that is a good thing. Okay - no need to go checking the closures on my clothing today, I am referring to cast buttons in the basement. Let me ‘splain.
I have this large pile of fabric (well actually several bins of sorted and inventoried fabric) in my basement. Some linens, some silks, some bottom weight cottons. Most all lovely stuff, but I have had it for longer than I should, so I decided one day that it was time to part with it. So I called up the staff of Holiday Faire and listed myself as a merchant. Shameless plug - come by and chat at me at
Holiday Faire I will be stapled to a table and not able to wander aimlessly as I usually do at events.
But you see if I am going to go to all the trouble to be in one place, and to sell things and have a cash box and all that … what else can I or should I sell? Well there is the out of control collection of yarns. Yep some of those are going too.
Then there are shiny things. Shiny pewter metal things that people are forever asking me if I mass produce. Being as this was an idea that came to the brain later than I would have liked it to, and during an action packed time at the office and the firehouse - selections will be more limited than I would like. Selections will be limited to BUTTONS.
Buttons will be on sale this weekend for $7-8/dozen. Buy early, buy often. Get ‘em as 12th Night gifts. Buy them to use as gaming tokens. Fund my obsessions. There will be around 6 different designs to choose from. Admittedly there is a 14th century bias to the selection, but there a couple of patterns that are appropriate for earlier and later period interpretations. See me at the event for details.
Also there will be a VERY LIMITED SUPPLY of cast “A collars” for sale. If you know that you are interested in acquiring one of these … contact me before the event and I may adjust the supply of those available this weekend) .
So folks - what I am looking for is a vague idea of how popular the button market is likely to be this weekend. How many hours should I be in the shop casting away between now and then. I have a decent supply laid in at this time, but if I am going to get “wiped out” (I could only hope) by lunchtime I will make the hours to alter the supply … comments????
