Fractured Fairytale

Mar 23, 2008 21:31

My heart's been broken

like so many shards of glass

from the mirror upon my wall

the time has come at last

to sweep up the pieces

of this fractured fairy tale

Prince Charming rode away

leaving this princess in a house of straw

the big bad wolf has come to play-

I just want to withdraw

and cradle the pieces

of this fractured fairy tale.

Was I not really a swan

just the ugly duck I first thought

the time started once upon

but ended with a damsel distraught

and burying the pieces

of this fractured fairy tale.

Awake at last in an empty room

the vines and thorns still uncut

the castle has become a tomb

even the dragon gave up somewhat

leaving the unguarded pieces

of this fractured fairy tale.

The abandoned candy house

a cold ashen oven within

the witch alone- not even a mouse

for company once more when

the cracks show in the pieces

of this fractured fairy tale.

I walk the streets in my new ballgown

no one points or stares-

no one notices my golden crown

is tarnished and I am bare

but for the ragged pieces

of this fractured fairy tale.

I gave up the ocean to walk the land

gave up my voice- laid it down

I reached out for your hand

Tried to call for you- only to drown

under the pieces

of this fractured fairy tale.
