I saw the movie Elf tonight for the first time! It was at the drive-in, and as we went in, I told my friend Craig, who runs it, that I hadn’t seen it, and he said that it was definitely a Kymm movie. Well, I feel seen!

My friend Blake hadn’t seen it either, and when it was over, we both were like, well, we certainly have wasted the last 17 years not watching it! A friend on Facebook I asked how I could possibly have avoided it before now, because it’s on television every single minute of the Christmas season. I didn’t tell her that I hadn’t seen A Christmas Story before a couple of years ago, and that ubiquity really isn’t a reason for me!

Everyone was charming, and so young! Blake said, “Is that Amy Sedaris?” and I was like, “It can’t be, she’s so young!” But it seems that when things are 17 years ago, everyone was younger.

The cast is fantastic. Leon Redbone is in the movie, for heaven’s sake. That’s a mark of quality right there.

Anyway, hot take: Elf is a modern Christmas classic for a reason.

(I also have never seen Scrooged)
