It’s 1a, I’ve gotta go to sleep. Why am I still up? Because I was cross-stitching an adorable cactus and listening to podcasts, is there a better reason to be up?
I went and saw the last of the Poverty Row series of UCLA Archive restores films, and it was the best of yet, Strange Illusion from 1945. Its a movie about a college student whose father had died, and he has a strange dream about a shadowy figure taking his father’s place, and then it turns out that his mother really is dating this creepy dude, but most people don’t see he’s as. Reply as he is, and the kid has to figure it out and thwart the lothario as his dream totally comes true around him. It was just great, really enjoyable.
I only saw four of the six films, but this was number one, then False Faces (quack plastic surgeon), then Mamba (terrible plantation owner in Africa, then Damaged Lives (VD). I wish I had seen the first two, Vampire Bat and The Sin of Nora Moran, which I regret having to miss.
