“I don’t need my family there” Kevin repeated for what felt for the hundredth time, it had been a week since he and Scotty had gotten back together. They were both selling their places and moving into a new one; close enough to the restaurant and Kevin’s law firm. Neither could decide whether they actually wanted to move back to LA and their old home or not so a new place in New York seemed logically “all I need is you” Kevin said leaning over to kiss Scotty as they walked into the court house.
It was there that Kevin saw all his family and he looked at Scotty who just shrugged at Kevin innocently “I’ll get you for this later” Kevin warned Scotty and he heard Scotty answer him with the word “Promise” which made Kevin burn up with desire.
1 year later
“So, there is an adoption faire, where you can go and meet with children, I think you two are ready” the adoption worker stated, whilst she handed Kevin and Scotty the leaflets. Knowing that the faire can be overwhelming she tried her best to prepare them.
“All this faire is...is children looking for a family, for people to love them, just like you are, just remember that when you go. This is all about love in the end” she smiled up at the two men.

At the faire, the men walk around, talking to the children, some were talkative, others weren’t. They found themselves talking to a girl about 7-8, very shy, but she grabbed onto their hands when they tried to leave and that’s when they knew they had found there family.
Her name was Claire; she was short for her age and had long blonde hair.
10 years later
Claire wasn’t the only member of their family to join, after Claire was settled in, they adopted a boy called Simon, how was five, when he enter the Walker-Wandell family, then came Elisa, she was 4 and then Andrew came at age 7. Their family was complete, full of love and neither man could be happier.
Today was a big day, Claire was 18, leaving home and off to university, she had packed her items into her car, she refused to let either of her Dads take her, knowing that if they did, they would cry and then she would. Better to get the crying out now, as she hugged her siblings and then her parents “I’ll call you when I get there” she called and waved goodbye as she got into the car.
25 years later
Scotty hung up the phone, he had just called Justin with news, which meant within minutes the Walkers would be with him; his kids were already on the way, he called them first with the news.
Scotty looked down at his husband, it looked like his husband but it also didn’t at the same time, the skin didn’t look right. He had been called to identify the body. It had been average day at work but he knew when he got that call, nothing would be the same again.
He leaned over and kissed Kevin on corner of his lips “I’ll see you soon, Sweetie” and he nodded to the person to cover Kevin back up.
He left the room and Claire was the first person he saw, sitting on the floor crying, with her husbands’ arms around her for support, she looked up when she heard the door open.
“Dad” she cried and scrambled up, pushing her way towards Scotty.
“Oh, honey” Scotty caught her and tried to smooth away the tears but there was nothing he could do.
“What happened?” Claire asked once she was all cried out, she just couldn’t understand it, everything was happening at the same time.
“He had a heart attack, no one noticed, until it was too late” Scotty answered honestly “though if they did notice... it could... still... have been too late” Scotty didn’t know what else to say, he was trying to ease some of his daughter pain.
“I can’t lose both of you” Claire chocked out “I just can’t, I love you too much”
“Sometimes you just don’t have a choice, do you think I really want to leave you” Scotty said.
“I might have believed that yesterday but now, today, you get to be together again, you want that more” Claire says harshly and she turns and runs away.
Scotty looks shocked as his daughter runs away but he can’t deny the words that were thrown at him, he had just thought and said them himself, he looks at his son-in-law.
“Look, maybe, you could fight it, fight it for her” he says.
“They said it was terminal three months ago, they gave me six months, want am I supposed to fight” Scotty said, he had kept living his life, as did everyone else, including Kevin but the stress, the additional stress might have even caused... Scotty stopped that train of thought, no, he thought as he watched his son-in-law shake his head and walk away, no, I’ll be with you soon my love.
