Summary: What if Kevin was the one to get Amnesia.
Kevin and Scotty’ Loft
Kevin looks around at all the boxes that Scotty and he have packed up over the last few days. I had been two weeks since he woke up from the coma and one week since he was allowed home.
He thinks back to the day after he’d read the lists; a lot of things had happened that day, finding out about the accident, Kitty apologizing, him finding out about Aaron and seeing Tommy with Julia and Elizabeth.
The doctors walked in with the rest of the Walkers following them.
“Hi Kevin, Hi Scotty” everyone acknowledging each other before the doctors spoke again.
The doctors walk to Kevin’s bed (Scotty had moved to sitting in the chair next to the bed and holding Kevin’ hand) “Okay, so we have discussed what to do with your unique situation. We think it would be best to observe you for the next week. So you’ll going to have to stay here. If there are no more incidents like last night” the doctor decides not the mention the fainting “we’ll discharge you. You’ll have meeting twice a week; with me until I feel we can adjust the amount of visits or stop them, okay?” Dr Karl Thompson says.
“No chance of getting out here any earlier is there; never been a fan of hospitals, no offense” Kevin said.
“None taken” Dr Michael Carter says with a little smile; he is used to people feeling that way “but no; that is the earliest we will let you go” making sure that everyone understood the situation.
“Well, first of; we should tell you how you came to be in the hospital to begin with. I’ve asked you’re family to come and describe what happened before the incident; seeing if it might jog your memory but no worries if it doesn’t” Michael says.
Saul steps forwards (the family had decided that Saul should explain everything since it was his and Scotty’s cafe that they had gone up to taste the food) “Scotty, you and me had gone up to the old Ojai house; we had rented in so we could have the space. We invited the whole family up to taste the food that we wanted to put on the menu” Saul says remembering the facts; the doctor said try and keep it simple so he missed out the fact that Luc wasn’t there, that he found out it was HIV positive, about Robert being rushed to the hospital or finding out about the water they had found.
Kevin looks at the rest of his family and Scotty knowing there is some facts missing from their faces but waits for Saul to finish before he starts interrogating them.
“Once we were finished we all headed back to the city; Kitty and Robert in one car, Nora, Sarah, Holly and myself in another, Scotty and yourself in another and then lastly Justin and Rebecca were the last to leave” Saul explains the order the left in for some reason he thought it was important. Kevin looks at Tommy thinking why he wasn’t there and then he remembers that it said something about Seattle on the list; they must have come to visit him.
Saul continues with the story “To be honest I’m not really sure want happen, I just remember being outside in the dark with lots of people screaming and some bleeding” Saul looks at the rest of the family and they nod their agreement. Kevin looks scared; he realizes that there must have been an accident and he looks around the room and wonders were Robert, Rebecca and Holly were; maybe they just weren’t allowed in the room with this many people, at least he hopes.
Kitty steps forward “Robert and I were the first ones that we hit in the accident; we left a less than a minute before you guys. We saw the truck on its side but there was nothing that we could do” Kitty says as she shakes; Nora goes over to her and holds her.
“Where is Robert?” Kevin asks and he looks around the room.
Kitty can’t take the pressure and leaves the room for some fresh air. “Robert is in another room; he is in a coma” Nora says straight-forwardly.
Kevin thinks he must have been lucky to be alive. He looks at Scotty and thinks they are both lucky to be alive.
End of Flashback

Back in the loft
Kevin looks around the room to see what else they had to pack; Scotty was out and Kevin had hoped to get some more stuff packed. They had decided in the hospital that they wanted to move into the new apartment above the cafe; so they could start making new memories the loft had felt slightly weird over the last week. He was excited about moving on though; a new house and a life that was about to start. They had put the loft on the market and got an offer straight away; they also decided to sell the furniture so that all the new items would be both of theirs. Something the Scotty said they hadn’t thought about but he loved the idea.
He went to cabinet and looked at the photos they had up; he remember some of the times but there was plenty of new photos that he had no idea when or where the photos were taken. He looked at a photo of Scotty and himself kissing sad he couldn’t remember their own ceremony. He put the photo in the new empty box and went for the next; it was a picture of Kitty and Robert with Evan; he can’t believe he was an uncle again.
He thinks about Kitty and how Robert is in a coma still and Kitty had explained why she had acted the way she did.
The Walkers had left awhile ago; leaving Kevin and Scotty by themselves and in their thoughts. Kevin looked at Scotty and said “I was driving, wasn’t I?” Kevin said already knowing the answer before Scotty nodded “I could have killed you” Kevin caring more about Scotty that himself. Scotty went over to Kevin and said “It was an accident; there was nothing you or anyone could have done to stop it. I just glad to have you back and that Justin was there to help out; he came over to us and knew exactly what to do, he helped save us all” Scotty said reassuringly.
“You drove, so I could sleep Kevin; would you blame me for that?”Scotty asked knowing he wouldn’t “No, never, Scotty” Kevin said fast. “Then don’t blame yourself” Scotty said as there was a knock on the door and they both turned as they saw Kitty walk in nervously.
“Hey Kitty” Kevin said “Kitty” Scotty said feeling awkward for the first time in front of any Walker since they found out about Kevin cheating on Jason with Scotty; he doesn’t know how to respond to the fact that it was Kitty’ idea to get Kevin and Jason to talk.
“Um, I think I owe you both an apology” Kitty said still nervous from the cold shoulder she got from Scotty.
“Look I know I shouldn’t have gotten involved. I just saw Kevin’ face and he look scared about being alone with Scotty. I don’t really know what I was thinking really” Kitty said trying to get them to understand why she did it. “I thought maybe you would want Jason now; I should have known better it was always Scotty for you, right from the beginning” Kitty says surely.
Scotty smiles slightly at the compliment but still hasn’t quite forgiven her.
“Kitty, you right” Kevin said “but I wasn’t scared about being alone with Scotty; I was scared that I would loss him again. I might not be the person he fell in love with. I couldn’t understand how he came back into my life and I didn’t know what to do” at these words Scotty looks at Kevin with so much love in his eyes that it makes Kevin’ heart mend after everything that had happened in the previous day.
“I shouldn’t have known that; your my brother and I know how much you two love each other” Kitty says trying to get her brother-in-laws forgiveness knowing the Kevin couldn’t stay made at her. Scotty looks at her and sees the truth in her eyes.
“To be honest, I think I used it as a distraction from Robert” Kitty said honesty and Scotty forgave her knowing how hard it was to see Kevin lying there day after day. He has prayed for anything to happen to distract him.
“Kitty, why don’t you and Kevin talk for a bit, I should go and get some coffee” Scotty said making up an excuse to leave so they could talk. “I’ll be back soon” Scotty says and leans over to Kevin and gives him a quick kiss; then he leaves the room.
Kitty sits down and Kevin says “So, how is Robert doing?” Kevin asks casually.
“He is okay, still the same but they say he can come out of it at any point and look at you; there is proof that they are right sometimes; he is a fighter” Kitty says knowingly.
“That’s good to know” Kevin said not sure what else to say about Robert; they had never been that close.
“Kevin, do you know that you worked for Robert?” Kitty asked knowing that she shouldn’t be asking; they were all told not to bring up things that might confuse Kevin, she also knew that he had read the list.
“Yes” Kevin said “Don’t know how that happened though; supposed to be one the things I supposed to go through with the doctors in my session” Kevin said laughing then seeing her face “Kit, what it is” he said with concern.
“No I shouldn’t really be talking about this with you” Kitty said cautiously “It’s just that with Robert in a coma; I thought you’d of know how I felt” Kevin looked confused “Kev, you and Robert actually became quite good friends whilst you worked together” Kitty says and smiles at the surprise on Kevin’s face.
End of flashback

Kevin looks at the photo behind the one of Kitty, Robert and Evan and sees a photo of Robert and himself laughing; it must have been taken at one of their campaigns. They looked happy though and enjoying each other’s company; not a pose put on for some photographs. He looks at the photo and grieves; he grieves not for the fact that Robert was in the hospital but because of the memory loss he doesn’t have that friendship; he grieved for the friendship he could have had.
Everyone had gone through so much in the last three years; people had changed and more secrets had been discovered. Some not so bad and some were just damn right painful. He looked at the portrait photo of his mother and still feels angry when he quickly places it in the box.
“Mum” Kevin said as she walked quickly pass his room; he quickly gets out of bed. “Mum” he says again and Nora has no choice but to go back to him; she is worried about the Aaron situation, Scotty had told her that Kevin had asked about it and she knew she had to talk to him eventually but also remember how he reacted the last time.
“Um, Kevin, how are you feeling?” Nora asks pretending she hadn’t been trying to avoid him.
“Oh, just dandy” Kevin says mockingly “You’re going to have to talk to me sooner or later; you can’t avoid me. I need to know what happened” he doesn’t even bother to add on Aaron’s name because they both know what they are talking about.
“Kevin, you heard the doctors; they don’t want to stress you out. You’re supposed to find this out gradually” Nora says trying again to afford the subject.
“Too late” Kevin says as he guides them back to his room and puts Nora in the chair as he sits down on the bed “Spill” Kevin demands “You can tell me or I’ll get it from one of the others; what would you prefer?” Kevin asks knowing that if it is as bad as what he thinks Nora will tell him.
“Kevin, I” Nora says as she stumbles over her words “I. Do you remember the party when you invited Aaron to visit?” Kevin thinks back to that night and just nods “Kevin there was some fight” Nora says slowly; Kevin remembers it “Aaron fell” Nora said even more slowly those last two words. “Yeah, and you told me he was okay so why don’t you tell me the truth?” Kevin asked worried about want the truth is and starting to feel angry. “Kevin, the way he landed he ended up paralyzed” Kevin just looks at his mother and doesn’t even move a muscle until he thinks about it more closely; from a lawyers point of view and guesses that dad paid off the family. “You paid them off, didn’t you” Kevin says accusingly “Yes. Your father did and then when you father died I carried on but no one was pressured” Nora says. Kevin just looks at his mother; the person he respects more than anyone and it just disappears he gets angry and starts to cry with pain as well “BUT I didn’t know, Mum, I didn’t know” he looks at his mother and sees a stranger “GET OUT!” he shouts “Kevin, we have to talk” Nora says determined that it won’t go the same way that it had earlier “GET OUT, GET OUT” Kevin keeps yelling until Nora abandons the room.
Scotty comes in later and sees Kevin; he knows he has been told about and Aaron; he goes to Kevin’ bed and gets in, he hold Kevin as he cries. Scotty think back to how hard Kevin had taken it the first time and knows it isn’t going to be any easier this time around. He holds out Kevin until he finally goes to sleep from exhaustion.
End of flashback

Kevin was putting in the rest of the photos into the box when Scotty comes home.
“Hey honey” Scotty says as he goes over to Kevin and gives him a kiss. He looks at Kevin and knows there is something wrong “You okay?” Scotty asks concerned he did something wrong.
“Just thinking” Kevin says honestly.
“Anything you want to share” Scotty asks hopefully and like a child wanting a treat.
“I was packing away the photos and got me thinking about everything that happened over the last couple of weeks” Kevin says not really wanting to go into any more detail.
“You know what” Scotty says mischief “you think too much” Scotty says pulling Kevin to him and kissing him passionately until they need to part because the need for oxygen.
“Yeah, you’re right” Kevin says as he grabs hold of Scotty for another kiss and pulls at his shirt.
“Bedroom” Scotty says moving himself from Kevin and walks towards our bedroom.
Kevin has one last thought before he follows his husband into their bedroom. He might not remember the last three years but he couldn’t image himself any happier than he was right now. He couldn’t wait to make new memories with Scotty, to start their life together and maybe even have another wedding so that he would remember it; he smiled at the last thought as he ran to catch up with Scotty.
