Not sure I learned anything new this final weekend, but I have some happy moments to share.
Cut as always
Fauna is not sexy, attractive, or alluring. She is memorable, vibrant, cute and goofy. This is different after 3 years of Frances, but not necessarily bad.
Highland gamers will go wildly out of their way to make one another feel good, look good and make sure know we are loved and supported. It is why it will always be my sport of choice, companionship like that is hard to find.
Having the final COD mugs and Year End Awards end up just where I hoped makes me feel like I am dancing on air. Seeing folks get recognized for hard work they felt went unnoticed makes me smile like the cheshire cat, and holler even when my voice is shot.
HCM awards were well received on the whole, even if some folks wanted us to justify our choices. Having all the Royal Guard come up and individually thank us for noticing what a good job one of thier brothers-in-arms does makes me see a whole new side to the guard.
Rain is a state of mind. I can maintain the happy in the street, but back stage I do not want to be touched at all by anyone when I am a soggy hot mess.
Folks who approach me with an accusatory tone get a stage face smile and a quick curt answer and then forgotten for the rest of my day. They are worthless in my performance day and my personal POV. I don't owe you shit, and you get more flies with honey.
Having all three of my fights on the final day is exhausting, flattering and intimidating.
Chris and Boomer's fight was wicked. I am glad I got to see it.
Dan C. and his whip tricks are only sexy backstage. Sir Daniel has all the sex appeal of a wet stray kitten - cute, but not sexy. Those are some deeply impressive tricks. Trusting him enough let him demo the tricks on me rather than Allen when Glenn insisted he get to see them, is also nice. Well - trust or exhaustion - you decide.
The HCM show was incredibly well liked by the paytrons and playtrons. Having a playtron recognize the differences we each bring to the stage and the street really matters.
According to some of our playtrons our villagers are more visible to our paytrons than any other show they have been to and it makes us more real. Hooray for having a nice balance of nobles to village.
Out of town guests, call back cast, vistors always had a special energy and the drive to work harder. Thanks for coming!
Memorial day is an emotional day for lots of folks for lots of reasons. I will opt to avoid said weepy as much as I can because once I start it is all over, really, and then I am useless to the festival.
I have begun to think outside myself for the greater good of the festival, on occasion to my missing out on something fun or cool. Who the hell knew I had that kinda maturity going on?
Nothing beats discovering people on a deeper level and learning about yourself in the process. This year I was overwhelmed with new friendships and new aspects of people, performers, myself, our work, and this place.
I am still a bit numb and exhausted, there will be more.
