woo me!
I had my zoo keeper day on sunday. I would be writing about the very, very cool partay on saturday, but everything else probably has, so i won't bore you with the same details.
My zoo day was lots of fun. I saw Lemurs and strokeded them! Yay! Then i went to see the sealions. They are so graceful, its amazing. I was watching them play before the show and they are truely amazing.
Then I went to see the bears and the monkeys. They are so funny! I was saw this great big black bear that kept trying to hide behind its little house, but then, maybe it was only trying to pull the house down, because it grabbed the roof and pulled down...
THe monkeys were adorable. There are three kinds there and the 'monkey lady' who drove me in the landover put peanuts on the bonet and they all jumped up onto it, and started playing and hanging off the roof and staring into the windows. Got some crap, but close, pictures. So yay to the monkeys!
Then i went off to the Elephants. I got to touch the two females (asian elephants, not african) and watch the keeper talk. I even got pictures with one! Yay!Then i got a 'taxi' over the rhinos. Then i was taken around the main part of the park and saw all the hooves animals and the rhinos. It was amazing and i got some ok pictures. After this very long tour I was dropped off at the big cats and wolves. This was my favourite section, naturally.
Firstly we looked at the Tigers. The Tigers were quite new so a few of them growled at the landrover and ran away. It was very cute seeing them try to threaten a moving vehicle. Then we moved on to the wolves! Yay! I loved the wolves, just seeing them was quite amazing for me. I really enjoyed that eperience. Then we moved onto the Lions and i was told about how there were only five left. The 'lion man' told me that he used to look after them when there were thirty eight lions. They were trying to regrow the numbers in the pride, so they had two new males brought in last january. When they arrived, one, called Sly, was not greatly liked by the lionesses. They used to fight with him often and bit off the end of his tail. And in another fight, unfortunately, they bit off one of his testicles. I found this rather amusing to say the least. I ws also told that one remainiing lioness was not pregant was just coming out of heat, so Sly was following her around for ages, sniffing her backside.
Then we went to put the cats to bed. We herded the terrified tigers into their respective houses first and then, when they safe we could get out for a closer look. One was growling and roaring at us and I almost tripping over i fear as it roared at me. I moved on quickly to see the other two females, who seemed not too fussed. One keeper was even talkign to one and 'playing' with her through the bars. He tipped his head and snorted and she would growl softly with her face right up again the bars of her house. We then went to put the lions away as another group went to the put the wolves away, by foot, with big sticks. The 'lion man' said the sticks were fo r protection, but the Wolves were a cowardly bunch. I was insulted very slightly, but said nothing, as this man did not know i was a wierdo. We herded the Lions away into their homes and got out to see. Most of them threatened us a little, but didn't btoher gettign up for us. Sly and the other female, Amber, went into a roo to themselves, nect to the other, rather jealous male, Shane. I watched in slightly surprise as Sly cralwed onto Amber and started making some very, very odd noises. I blinked as these two lions had sex. The 'lion man' walked past and said: 'not bad for a lion with only one testicle'. I nodded slightly as Sly finished his business and waltzed off. Shane was looing a bit miffed, but it was getting very cold by now so we went to say goodbye to the wolves.
The alpha male, Scuds, came up to give us a sniff as we approached the pen. The others stayed well away and stared ta me. It was amazing for me seeing them so close. Scuds came right up to the bars and I wished I could touch them. I knew, and no i'm not that stupid, that i shouldn't and wouldn't, but i wished i could.
Anyway, all in all a great day. And I got a free lunch and a free T-shirt! waa ha! Anyhow, i hope you enjoyed reading my experience and i hope people will post about this, because i get lonely with no msn! boo hoo.
