spazska Here are five of the songs I'm digging on right now:
Elliott Smith - "Let's Get Lost"
Elliott Smith is, hands down, my favorite musician. This song is just vocals and acoustic guitar, more like his old stuff. Very delicate and personal.
Burning every bridge that i cross, to find some beautiful place to get lost...
This whole album, "From a Basement On The Hill" is amazing. The production was almost finished, when he suddenly stabbed himself in the chest. It was finally released almost a year after his death. I'm sorry you killed yourself, Elliott, but it really did make you the perfect tragic rockstar hero.
Pavement - "Range Life" I was never a big Pavement fan, because most of their songs are boring, atonal crap, but I just recently rediscovered this song. It's works because it's simple, upbeat, and has a catchy melody. The singer's voice sucks, but it's perfect for this song. Plus, he makes fun of the Smashing Pumpkins in one of the verses. Granted, the Pumpkins were my favorite band when I was in middle school, but if there's ever been a time in Billy Corgan's career where he deserves to be made fun of, it's right now. Re-forming the Pumpkins in 2005? What are you thinking, b0lly?! I linked to this song so you can download it.
Iron & Wine - Cinder and Smoke
There's something about this song that's just... soothing. Iron and Wine is this bearded fellow from Florida who sings softly and fingerpicks an acoustic guitar, with female accompanying vocals and like, bongo drums and a little bit of banjo in the background. Kind of hippie-ish, and also very Southern, but I dig it.
Outkast - Slum Beautiful
This is my favorite hip-hop song. It's just sexier than hell. The beat is bangin', the rhymes are ill, and it's got a touch of humor, too--you can tell these guys don't take themselves too seriously, and that is a requirement for a good hip-hop artist.
与非门 (Yu Fei Men aka NAND)- I Want My TV I couldn't resist putting a Chinese song on here. Yu Fei Men is an electronic group from Guangzhou, and their music is very... eclectic. It spans many genres. This one has sort of an R&B feel. The singer's voice is pretty, and the lyrics are an interesting mix of Mandarin and English. She's pretty much singing about how her TV keeps her company when she's lonely, and she kind of talks about it like it's a drug. The chorus, translated, is like "Enjoy the beautiful, temporary happiness / I want my TV, I want my TV/ Leave the channel, and I'm bored and uncomfortable / I want my TV, I want my TV..." You can also download this one and give it a listen. After all, unless you're Chinese, you may never hear anything like it again.
I tag:
azngirlemaline_valentiwys35arundeldavidsmPost five songs you're into right now, and then tag five others to do the same. Apologies if you've already done it, I can't keep track of who has and who hasn't.
