Complete waste of a day

May 20, 2005 21:01

I had a little too much fun at the Mix last night, and I've been recovering all day. I have no idea how I managed to wake up, ride my bike to class, take a Classical Chinese test at 8:30, and pedal back home, but I did it, and I'm pretty sure I aced it, too.

At some point in the afternoon, I got the excellent idea of making myself a Caesar salad with salmon. What a delicious, healthy meal!
So, I make a list of stuff I need, and get in a taxi to Carrefour.

salmon--check.
parmesan cheese--check.
croutons--check.
ceasar salad dressing--check.
lemon--check.
romaine lettuce--no dice.

I got to the produce section and started looking for romaine lettuce. I walked back and forth in disbelief, scanning the leafy green things to find something that resembles romaine. I asked someone if they had "phoenix tail lettuce" (literal translation of the Chinese word for romaine), and guess what? Romaine lettuce is OUT OF SEASON, which means you absolutely cannot get it ANYWHERE. I went to two supermarkets and an open air market by my house just to make sure.

Moral of this story: I WANNA GO HOME!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm having an awesome time here, I've learned a lot and grown up a lot, and I'm really glad I came, but as the end of the school year is approaching, I'm missing my family, my American friends, good western food, and my girlfriend more and more.

Which reminds me, I bought my plane ticket. Final exams end on the 15th of July, and I'm getting on a flight to Hong Kong the same afternoon. I'll be flying home the very next morning, and I will arrive in Seattle at 10 AM on the 16th.
