Windows 7* is installed on the desktop since last night! From a nice, clean Retail DVD with no crapware! Installation was pretty simple, it just seemed to take forever. With Ubuntu you can surf the web while it installs, so maybe it just seems to take longer. On the other hand, everything seems to be running smoothly given our slightly older hardware.
Now I'm scrambling to find good programs to do what I want, like manage my FLAC/Ogg music, chat in IRC, all while get used to the new way of working Windows. Yep, the last version I used regularly was XP, and after that almost exclusively Ubuntu. Navigating around in 7 is less straightforward than I'm accustomed to. Whoamg, I'm going to have to remember to do virus scans again!
On the other hand, Romo is getting antsy and it's finally dry and sunny out. I should take him for a walk while I still can!
*I went with the 32bit version because A) I wasn't sure about how well 32bit programs are supported in 64, and B) we only have 2GB of DDR2 667 (highest speed the mobo supports), which is getting hard to find upgrades for. It might cost a bit to move to 4GB if we wanted to in the future, but I'm open to arguments in favor of re-installing in 64bit anyway.
