Day 2 - Tuesday, June 3, 2008:

The electricity came back on at the end of the evening lesson on Monday.  I was extremely glad to have air conditioning for the night.  We had water back on (the sewage pump is electric so they had to turn the water off to prevent backups) but all the girls used the hot water first.  So Angie (my co-counselor in the cabin) and I waited until this morning.  Let me just say that I love hot water.  I actually felt human again by getting to shower.

I had a quiet time with one of the girls from Wichita.  Her name is Kristen.  Wonder if that has anything to do with why I was immediately drawn to her.  She's spunky, outspoken and has a very unique fashion sense.  Our quiet time went really well.

There is another girl in the cabin -- Summer.  She's the one that Kyle really liked last summer.  Even though that was a little awkward at first, I think she kind of likes being in my group when we do group stuff.

Isn't it crazy that a grown woman worries about whether teenage girls like her or not?  They aren't the only ones with insecurities.

I did lead my first devotional group with eight of the girls.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it wasn't great either.  We had our discussion outside, and I have never seen more girls afraid of bugs.  I guess I'm a little jaded with only having a boy who thinks that kind of stuff is cool.  I think I lost a few of the girls when they were more focused on bugs.  I also had some who were really attentive.

After lunch, the girls (and all the other campers) got to have some free time for activities.  I think they all changed their minds a thousand times about what they were going to do.  Because of the storms, paintball was not available yet.  None of our girls were riding ATV's.  So most of them went to the pool or the snack shack or both.  I stayed in the cabin and took a nap becaused I had volunteered to help out in the snack shack with crafts from 3-5.  I really didn't have to do anything but get people going on some crafts and keep an eye on the kids going in and out of the snack shack.

After the snack shack, it was time to get ready for dinner.  After dinner, we had a game board night where we played giant board games.  Some of the kids and staff dressed up like game board pieces.  I played a game giant Yahtzee with one of the other counselors.  It was a lot of fun.  They had a Hungry Hungry Hippo, Pick Up Sticks, Operation, Scrabble and some other games.  The staff there said that was the first time they had done this activity.

After the games, we had our evening lesson and then went back to our cabins for devotional group time.  I think I died when my head hit the pillow!
