I kept a written journal of church camp while I was there, and I want to try to transcribe most of it so that I can keep my memories. Some of the last two days are still not finished, but I have things that remind me what went on for those days.
Sunday, June 1, 2008:
Maybe my adventure actually starts the day before when I had to go pick up the 15-passenger van that we were renting for the week. Let me just say, that I felt like a dwarf driving that van. The week leading up to getting ready for camp was super busy, but I made it and I think I only forgot one thing ... my face wash. (I'm an avid wash-your-face-before-bed girl, so it was a major forget for me.)
Anyway, the morning of Sunday, it is raining, then it started really storming. I was carrying 10 kids with me. The other lady at church that was going as a counselor took four kids and everyone's luggage in her minivan. So, we had to wait for the storm to abate a little before we could head out. When we were finally able to leave, it was completely clear and we had no more rain the rest of the way. There was a little drama before getting into the van on who was riding where, but we got it all sorted out.
Once we got to the KC church, the kids all went to stay with host families. The counselors were having dinner and a training session at the church then staying with our host families. The main thing that Maurice told us was E-G-G during our counselor training.
E - Example - Be an example to the kids
G - Gratitude - Be grateful for the opportunity
G - Go - Let our kids go
There was a lot more to counselor training, but no one wants to hear all that stuff. I'll share about the first day of camp later ...
