It's not a technicallity. Buying something on credit is the same as buying something with cash. Credit represents a promise of capital in exchange for goos and services. as does cash. It's called fiate currency. paper money isn't worth anything (apart from maybe the paper it's printed on). It's just a promise made by the government that it is worth something. Same thing with credit.
If you are exchanging something for something, you have a contract of sale, therefore, you have just spent money.
