dude! angela and i were totally talking about you and all your super-bad ass self. and, before i forget, I recommended Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica to this kid on the airplane on the way out who was telling me about tolkien & lewis while we were standing in line for the bathroom. he had a copy of the magicians nephew in his back pocket.
the tar pits were amazing. there are two that they are currently digging, one paused mid-dig and with a building built over it, so you can look down an see stuff, and then a whole building filled with mammoths, giant sloth skeletons, a zillion dyer wolf skulls, articulated birds and whatnot. and a really good intro film. i was surprised. the exhibits were informative and accessible. i had a great time. oh, and you get to watch paleontologists work in a glass room, cleaning bones and using microscopes and whatnot.

Years ago I read one of those "about the author/artist" things on the back flap of a book drawn by Mr. Zulli (I *think* it was written by J. Michael Straczynski but I'm not sure) and it said he "was on a continuing quest to grow the perfect mustache."
And now I've got that "Mustache Feeling" song from The Tick stuck in my head...

Next time you're in town with a few hours to spare, check out the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City. It's wacky and wonderful.
