I remember Nicole explaining the winter holidays to me after she had seen me studying photos of her family celebrating Christmas.
I had hoped that I would be able to spend my first Christmas with them. Now I wonder if I will see any of them again.
I like to think of them, together. Decorating the house as well as the tree. Josh and Lori co-existing peacefully. For a brief time at least. Nicole and Steven smiling as they watch their children unwrapping presents.
Nicole told me that Christmas is a time for family, for giving gifts to each other and showing that you care for one another. She said that it is a time for peace on Earth and when men should show goodwill towards one another.
I have finished a portrait of the Tragers, done from memory. It's an idealized version of them, but it is the way I choose to remember them. Happy. Together.
I will ask Adam if it is possible to send it to them. Because the Tragers are my family and I want to show them that I care.
